Escape is a romantic thriller that focuses on the dangers of the rising nuclear power in the Middle East. Layla Rose Wallace is a doctoral student of art history at Harvard, where her father also works as a nuclear physicist. When she is kidnapped along with her Saudi boyfriend for ransom, and taken to Evin prison in Iran, reknown for the torture of inmates, she becomes a pawn in a deadly game that could culminate in a nuclear war.

Cyrus Hassani is a deep-cover agent of Mossad, the national intelligence agency of Israel. In Iran, he is an assistant to the deputy director of Oghab2, the Iranian intelligence agency with access to their nuclear secrets. He is activated upon Layla’s kidnap and ordered to either get her out of Iran or kill her.
He has to fulfill his mission while fighting against his attraction for the fiery redhead.

Will they succeed in their escape? Who is Layla’s father really and why do the Iranian and Israeli government want to get their hands on him? And ultimately, does the spy and the student find love?

I loved the excitement, the adrenaline rush and the air of suspense in the story. After all, who doesn’t like spies! The story has a gripping start when a team led by Cyrus, escorting a shipment that contains technology vital to Iran’s success in the nuclear race, falls into an ambush. The rest of the story is also narrated in a manner that catches and holds the reader’s interest. Layla’s life is shown to be totally different from that of Cyrus, until fate makes their lives collide after her kidnap in Dubai.

The central characters have been portrayed well. Cyrus is smart, handsome and moreover a spy and a trained assassin who tries very hard not to get his feelings involved in his professional life. Layla is shown to be a smart, stubborn and beautiful young lady who has no choice but to place her trust in a man she hardly knew except that he had saved her from being raped at Evin prison. Though she has to depend on Cyrus for her rescue, she refuses to be ordered around by him all the time without telling her what is happening . The author’s style of writing manages to pique our interest ans makes us want to keep on reading the book. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because while the book makes for a good romantic thriller with just enough balance of suspense and romance, the ending was a bit cliche.
