A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

Post by Melaniep »

I just finished reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith in the wee hours of this morning. I absolutely loved this book. I was completely engrossed in it. I WAS Francie Nolan while I read about her life. I laughed with her, I cried with her, I loved it.

An oldie but a goodie. Her fourth book "Joy In The Morning" is equally uplifting.

I know this thread is kinda old, but I had to post. I LOVED ATGIB. I was so invested in Francie during the reading of this book...I was happy when good things happened to her, and sad when they didn't. Katie Nolan...keeping a family together (and fed) is HARD, but I felt that she would have been much happier if she had at least tried to enjoy the good things she had in her life.

The movie is just as good.
