Gone to Amerikay is a short graphic novel written by Derek McCulloch with art by Colleen Doran and Jose Villarrubia. The story in this book takes place simultaneously in 1870, 1960, and 2010 and centers around the immigration of an Irish family to America. It uses the experiences of the characters in the story to explain a very important topic in American history which is immigration. Who are the people that came here, how/why did they come to America and where will they be going when they get here? Gone to Amerikay shares this story quite superbly through the story and also the illustrations. It recognizes that changes that have taken place throughout history and demonstrates the relationship between the New World and the Old Country. Through twists and turns, love, betrayal, justice, music and passion all three timelines are woven together to create a brilliant ending that will leave the reader wanting to read it again, and again, and again.
