This book is indeed touching. For anyone with compassion or love for someone will deeply feel the intensity of the choices made by Liz. Try not to judge

Good review. Congrats on BOTD. The Summer of Love period may seem intriguing but this book aptly covers the lurking darkness. Escapism is so rampant today even in urban living. Absolutely poignant book!

Nice review of a nice book. Although it is not my cup of tea. No parent would want to face the reality of losing a child. But I'm sure it will be a nice book with many readers.

City of Redemption by June Ahern is a nice suspense book with a story based on grief, intrigue, & friendship with the essence of sex, drugs, & rock ‘n’ roll. A full 4 stars on this book!

Thanks H0LD0Nthere for giving us such a balance review of this novel. From your review I found it very interesting, but in this moment, I am not ready to read a book that deals with such hard topics as they are dealt with in this story. :eusa-think:

When a mother is blamed for her son's death and she's being abandoned by her husband, what do you think will be her state? in search of happiness, Liz decided to move herself to another country, without knowing that the major problems will start from there. As life goes on she fortunately found this family, she became entitled with the family, because she taught she will find what she's been looking for, but life seems worst than before, how will she cope with her past and how does she face drug addiction in this situation, as it is she need no more police for an investigation.

This book "City of Redemption" i must tell you portrays Liz as a woman who needs freedom from her past mistakes, but she can't denie the fact that all she has been hiding from is coming back to her to an extent that she was imprisoned. I pity for Liz Mac may, the story is a tragedy of Liz.

I agree, it's not a deal breaker. Seems a bit like a missed opportunity to me because I've very visual. On the other hand, if someone is very audial (audio? oriented to hearing), they might hear all the songs in their head and find that the books evokes San Francisco very richly.

Oh my goodness, what a tragedy. I am very sorry about your child. Completely understand if you wanted to give this one a pass.

The novel sounds like a heart-twisting explosion of events, and Liz sounds a like me... had kids young, very naïve, rebellious tendencies, etc. I cannot fathom ever losing a child and it is, quite honestly, my biggest fear, so my heart aches and breaks for Liz. I am hesitant yet excited to begin reading the adventure she is on and happy music is woven into the story as music is also a huge part of my life. :)
I hope you are enjoying the book.

I didn't have my kids particularly young, but even so, I find it's very hard to be responsible enough to be a parent. It's a hard, cruel world, where a few hours of childish irresponsibility like Liz's can bring consequences that seem all out of proportion to her "crime."

For me, it is a page-turner. At first, I had a little problem with the chapter breaks moving back and forth in time, but I couldn't stop reading until it was after 3 a.m., my eyes were so blurred the words ran together, and I had a 7 a.m. wake-up call!
Thank you, to the author, June Ahern, for a moving story. Your perception and understanding of people bring every character to life.
Thank you, also, to the reviewer, H0LD0Nthere.

Wow--thank you for your extremely detailed review. This is one of my favorite era's (I can't believe my childhood now qualifies as "Historical Fiction" LOL) but your comment near the end about the music titles/lyrics being included was great. I'm the same way; I'll hear the song fully in my head when I see a few words. Thank you!!
