The book was well... worded. I could say that the author had a commendable grip over the language but as for the writing, well, I was far from impressed. The author seemed to be quite miserly with his words at many instances and it was somewhat quite difficult for me to take the work seriously due to the style in which it is written.
I applaud the writer on not wasting time on the trivial stuff as survival(note the sarcasm) but then again, it could have been made far more interesting. There wasn't much of a character development, even though there were several instances where the character of the main person could be brought under further examination. The character development given should have been presented in a more... gripping manner because frankly, it requires a lot of improvisation in my humble opinion.
The most troubling point I found while I read the sample pages and the official review is that the author did not bother to burn many of his creative juices on the work. This story is a bland copy of an Indian movie, Picket 43, starring a few Indian actors and a few Pakistani ones. The only exception I spotted was that the name was changed and there was no Pakistani soldier to greet the Indian soldier with an assault... Other than that, everything was copied from the movie, down to the plot of two soldiers in an empty no man's land bonding together despite their differences and becoming friends... to the introduction comment of the Pakistan-Indian border checkpoint. Even the main character of the book had been copied from the movie
..as the main character in the movie shared all characteristics with the one in the book.
Or perhaps, the movie had copied the book, or was made based on the book...and I have been making a fool of myself till now...
