Historical fiction.

I absolutely love historical fictions. I believe that anything historical is good to read because it will not only be interesting but also, you get to learn something too.

Ever since I read 23 Minutes Past 1 A.M. by Robert Dornan, I have come to love historical fiction. Through a fictional character, I get to live and see what life was a few decades ago.

I think this is a genre that offers many possibilities for writers. I see this as a way to retell or reconstruct history, it may also be used as a way of criticism or at at least questioning the past. I think this genre also gives more space to play within a period of time, without the restriction of being purely historic.
It is likely that there will be more blending of genres as more people can publish books, especially indie authors who prefer being independant to have less restrictions of genres or styles.

As a person who doesn't like reading about history (dates and names), I don't like the genre. The writing seems formal and difficult to read as well.

I really like historical fiction because most of the time it makes it a bit easier to out yourself in a situation from that past.

I absolutely love historical fiction and it was one of my favorite genres. It's great when the author really takes the time to actually research the period and then manipulate that in their story. Those are the historical fiction novels I enjoy the most.

Historical fiction is not usually a genre that I read often, but when I do, it has to be based on a time period that I have interest in. I like the Outlander series, but in some of the books the historical moments that she is talking about just don't interest me.
I do appreciate authors who do their research though.

Like some of the others on this thread, I like historical fiction if it's mixed with Sci-fi or Fantasy. Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series comes to mind, Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series does as well. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness is another good one.

Historical fiction is the section that I have saved as my most commonly used links for amazon I am a huge fan of historical scottish and viking fiction - it just thrills me to learn so much about history while also following an intriguing story line. There are a lot of fantastic books that tie in historical fiction and sci-fi/fantasy if that is more to your taste. I have a long list of authors I follow but here are a few: Tanya Anne Crosby, Amy Jarecki, Hildie McQueen, Kiera Montclair - the list goes on and on.

I love historical fiction. Historical Christian fiction are some of my favorite books to read. I love going back to a different time and trying to see what life was like then.

It's the best! It might not be completely accurate but I feel it opens your mind to new perspectives often overlooked in history textbooks, it allows you to think of circumstances, feelings and beliefs of the people of that era or historic event. Most of the books I have read are historical fiction. I'm hooked!

I love the occasional historical fiction for as long as it's well-researched. Even in fantasy, I adore authors who can really give the readers a sense of history. Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones come to mind in this regard.
