I agree. I read a lot as a child to escape my surroundings.

That was the main reason why I first started reading, I needed to be in places that I've never been before
Lord, protect me from my friends; I can take care of my enemies.

That's actually one of the fun parts of reading books, I learn a lot of things about places I don't know and other cultures
That I probably wouldn't have known ever.

I love reading books that feature places that I have never been to because I feel like I am traveling. The way in which the authors describe the geographic features of the particular region as well as how that geography has shaped the culture is very interesting to me. A favorite book of mine would be the Bookseller of Kabul because I had only heard about Afghanistan through news reports, but to have a first hand account gave me a better understanding of the region.

Oh yes. It's an entertaining way to learn about other cultures. I could be travelling to that place but still not experience the local culture that is narrated in the book.

This depends upon the genre of the book. If it is non-fiction and based on ctual history or archaeology then yes I enjoy reading books about other places. But if they are historical fiction or fiction, etc., then no. I don't need those books

Yes I do like reading books about places I have not visited yet. It brings me curiosity about the place and someday wanted to visit it if it has something good to the place.

This is why Hogwarts is so exciting. We've never been to a wizarding school and yet so many are enamored with these stories! I think the important part is not where the book is but where it can take you! So, yes I love a great story that can transport my mind. :D
