Quite a balanced review. It takes a great author to create him or herself through a character in a book , the better if in doing that he is able to take readers through major issues affecting him or society. Isn't that the same thing we all do ? Take on different identities or different images in different scenarios to protect our ego or hide our fears/insecurities ? for example the public image we show to the public and our true self image which we only reveal to our inner circle and perhaps another which our inner circle has no clue about ?

He becomes the problem then, instead of the solution to the wrongs that he alludes to.

Am glad you admitted it is a book not to read for pleasure and relaxation because it really isn't. I think the author's over emphasis on culture and his activist role for the "voice of the voiceless" is a major distraction in many of his writings. He is the author of the very first book I reviewed and I must admit it wasn't a good one for me. I think that if he has to write about the Jews, Isreal and all that he should just write about them seperately, rather than trying to make them subjects in books that are supposedly novels. However, your rating of 4 out of 4 stars makes me believe that it was really a great read for you. As for me, the whole concept of the Askenazi and Sephardi got me all confused when I read his book "Gates to Tangier" and now I think that he probably talks about it in all his writings.

The timeline, or lack thereof, sounds both unique and interesting, and the story of an immigrant and their struggles is appealing. However, some of the author's stylistic choices are a bit off-putting to me. Interesting review!

Great review. This sounds really interesting! Much more interesting than I expected. Honestly, the cover gave me very low expectations. I'm glad I was wrong. Will definitely be reading this.

Your review gives enough information to give the reader a sound ability to choose whether they wish to read this book. Regarding the grammar and confusion, I have read some books that have been translated, they were a bit confusing and the grammar suffered greatly in the translation. To me, these issues fell on the shoulders of the translator. Well done.

I love how this book explores culture and how it affects people who are impacted by multiple cultures at once. Thank you for the awesome review! :tiphat: :tiphat:

The review is good. It certainly got me interested in the book. I had mis-judged the book by the cover and dismissed it as one of those cliche plots.

Perfectly choreographed review. I have to flip each page of this book to taste the flow and uncommon reading sensation.

Sounds like a book I would be interested in - touches on cultural awareness. Nice review, good to know that the errors pointed out by a previous reviewer were mere poetic license. The book will appeal to individuals who are into Cultural Studies.

It's a good review. Sounds very interesting. I feel the urge to read the book but I understand the warning on reading portions of the book more than once. This is because I have recently read one of the author's book and it's not straight forward. The author seems to tackle similar issues that are pertinent to him.
