Make a choice: Your career or Love?

I just traveled out to study and I had to determine to bring an end to a relationship because i want to focus on my education (which is the basis of my career). However, I know that if I am in love with someone to the point that I want to spend the rest of my life with her, I will choose her over my career any day.

Why do people make it seem like the two are mutually exclusive though?
It is possible​ to maintain a balance between both, and I'm of the mind that chosing one over the other can leave one miserable with their choice if they deem the price they paid too high.

I completely agree. It shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

I think the lesson in this book was not to let your career be all-consuming. Look what it did to all of the characters who chose their careers above all else. But love shouldn't be either, like Max's dad. According to Alan, he was doing whatever he had to do to keep his wife and obviously that led them to not so great places. Balance is key. (And that is not to say that stay at home moms didn't choose a career - that's totally a career.)

I would choose my career. I understand the fact that love is important but the need to establish myself in what I have always studied and prepared for is more important to me. I think it depends on the situation. I have been married for twenty years now, and I would always choose my husband first over my career. But if I were younger and just starting out, I would probably make my career my first priority.

In my life, I also chose love over career. But the love in my case is love for my parents and siblings.

While not always easy, love will always be my choice.

I love my carreer, I am passionate about my career. This may sound selfish but your career is your career but your love may hurt you back or may not even love you back so, love your career. Love is an emotion but career is a practical thing to do. Career is away of living or a way through which you live. Love is not gonna put food in your table.

I would chose love. A true love supports you in all you do and there is nothing like having someone in your corner when you are embarking on a career path that you love as much as the person in your live. I am the type that I have to have someone to share success with.
