A Good Boy by Anthony Andres is about Wesley Aames as the new minister of New Covenant Church in Asheville, North Carolina. As the minister, he is working on ways to improve the church from the inside and help the local attendees. In order for him to accomplish 'growth' and 'passion' for the church Wesley must forgive himself first so that he can move forward. This is hard for Wesley to do as he blames himself for his wife's death even though it was not his fault.

One day Wesley Aames was taking a jog and came across a young boy named Thad Wright practicing basketball. Even though they did not know each other, Welsey decided to interfere and help Thad with his basketball skills. Soon enough the two started to bond. It became a regular routine of meeting so that Wesley could help Thad practice.

Rosa Lee, a mother to Jamie Lee that committed suicide, reached out to Wesley for help when the t.v. crew would meet with her for an interview of a considerably rude comment she posted on facebook. The post lead people to believe it was the reason why her daughter committed suicide. Rosa Lee is confused as to why people are pointing fingers at her for her daughter's death. Wesley's first speech was at Jamie Lee's funeral. He hasn't performed a sermon at his new church yet. Wesley hadn't even been at his own job for a full week. Was it suicide that caused Jamie Lee's death or did Rosa Lee kill her own daughter? These are a couple of examples of people Wesley becomes involve with.

After some time, Wesley joins the suicide hotline program. He also comes across a lone dog that has 3 legs, 1 eye and decides to take him in as his own. Wesley named his dog Lucky and soon the two become incredibly close. One day Wesley receives a surprise visit from his daughter that he left to his in-laws to care for years ago. Wesley is still carrying baggage with him but hopes for a second chance with his daugher. Will his daughter give him that chance? Can Wesley face the challenges on a daily basis to fulfill his duty as the minister for the New Covenant Church in Asheville, North Carolina?

This is book 1 of the Dying Church Series. It was a good book and I see potential for the series to be even better. Since this is not necessarily my style of reading I probably won't continue the series but I still recommend this story. There were no mistakes and no errors. However, I did not appreciate some of the profanity used in this story. I felt the profanity did not need to be added. I enjoyed reading about Wesley helping individuals in his community to save their lives. Overall, I rate this 4 out of 4 stars. I appreciated the values and morals the minister contributed to the story to help save the church and people inolved.
