Escape by Belle Ami is a short young adult romance novel that tells the story of a romance that sparks between two people on the run from Iran’s extremist regime. The story features a young American girl named Layla Wallace who is kidnapped from Dubai and taken to Iran, and Cyrus Hassani, a Mossad agent based in Iran. Following Layla’s kidnapping, Cyrus is tasked with the responsibility of getting her out of Iranian soil. The job is not only dangerous and almost futile, but also awakens an unavoidable passion between them that might interfere with the task at hand. As the two risk their lives in a bid to find a safe haven, they also confront their feelings to find out where their hearts belong.

Belle Ami does a good job of describing the characters, enabling the reader to clearly map out their personalities and the type of people they are. The different story settings are also well described, giving readers a clear image of either the luxuries or adversities that characters are likely to experience in a particular setting. It also provides a clear contrast of the culture and life in Iran and Israel, and enables the reader to see the dangers that the characters face in Iran. The storyline is also well plotted, with scenes that are skillfully organized to keep the reader’s interest piqued throughout and maintain suspense. Moreover, the lack of grammatical errors makes the story credible and avoids distracting readers who care about the use of correct grammar.

The author creates great chemistry between the main characters and their emotions are easily felt by the reader. This does not only make it sexy and romantic but also enables readers to understand why the characters make selfless decisions to protect each other or their feelings. However, the events at the end may leave some readers with unanswered questions as they are highly summarized.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because of the great chemistry that the characters share, and a solid storyline that is attractive from the beginning to the end. Moreover, the story has a thrill of danger which keeps the tension high and makes the love story unique, and also uses language that is easily understood by the reader.

Escape is good for readers who love romantic thrillers as it perfectly combines romance between characters with the element of danger that comes from the circumstances that they are faced with when they meet and the steps they take to set themselves free. Moreover, it is good for readers who prefer short novels as the book is only one hundred and sixty six pages long. All in all, the book is great and I would highly recommend it to others who love romantic thrillers or who would love to try them.
