I cannot remember the last time I read a book in Crime/Mystery genre but I know a good book when I read one. Published in 2016, The 11:05 murders is a part of Inspector Sheehan Series written by Brian O’Hare. This is my first O’Hare book and certainly won’t be my last.
Set in 2014, the story started when Woman Detective Sergeant Denise Stewart found her way in Strandtown Police Station. She was promoted and got transferred to this unit after exposing a corrupt official in her previous department. Ironic as it may seem, not everyone was pleased. However, even with this baggage, she still found herself welcomed in the team of the famous detective, Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan. Not long after this reassignment, Detective Sheehan’s team faced a challenging case. A body of a man was found mutilated in his own home and the killer was intelligent enough to leave no trace of evidence behind. The team did their usual police work and investigation thinking that this is just another murder case. When they thought that the case was already coming to a conclusion, everything suddenly went topsy-turvy. A stalker came into the picture, another murder occurred, suspects were piling up, and ghosts from the past kept haunting the present. All these with budding office romance, domestic issues, and family feud. Will there be another murder at 11:05?
I must say that The 11:05 murders has a perfect blend of action, mystery, romance, and suspense. There were also a lot of unexpected twists that will surely have the readers on the edge of their seat. There was no dull moment; the story was fast-paced, and surprisingly, highly entertaining. Furthermore, the three points I usually look for a novel were all apparent here. The characters were well-developed, the scenarios were realistic, and the storytelling was superb. In fact, I have been researching about the advantage of using third person narration in a novel and this book totally made me appreciate it more. I am amazed by how the story wrapped up in the end. All issues were resolved but it still had me wanting more.
All that being said, this book totally deserves 4 out of 4 stars. I know I’m no expert at CTMH genre but I really liked everything about this book. It’s also a bonus that I have learned a thing or two about police work because the author managed to give an overview of how investigations are done without sounding like he is giving a lecture. There were no obvious grammatical errors as well.
Lastly, you do not need to be a fan of detective stories to enjoy this. Readers who are in for a gripping, hooking story with the right amount of gore should grab a copy of this book!

Oh, if that's the case, you're indeed better off passing on this one. The plot of this book mainly revolved around police works and such. Thanks for dropping by!juliusotinyo wrote:Nice review, this book has been receiving rave reviews. But, its not for me. I cannot stand crime stories.

That's very true! I never felt like I was being talked down to or bored during those sorts of scenes. I really enjoyed this book too. However, I wasn't quite as big of a fan of the romance as the other parts of the book. I did enjoy watching Denise's transformation during the book though.. It’s also a bonus that I have learned a thing or two about police work because the author managed to give an overview of how investigations are done without sounding like he is giving a lecture.

Thanks for the kind words, MsTri!MsTri wrote:Great review. I too read and reviewed it and gave it 3/4 stars, but you made some excellent points, as well. I especially like how you noted the three things you need in a story and how this book hit them all. Like you, I also plan to go back and read book 1 and any others he does in the series.
