This story offers bright descriptions of events, elaborating the life of a young man trying to construct himself in a society that will not accept him as he is. Deliberate attempts are made by the writer to interact with the reader while drawing his or her attention into criticizing the character.
It is told of Randy, a vibrant young adult born into a 'normal’ family who live a simple life and earn their way in life through hard work and due processes. His mother passes away, leaving him to his father’s best judgments. Randy, at his age tires everyone around him with his poor judgments and bad choices. He has no sense of responsibility and lacks financial intuition. His friends and family on the other hand stick with him to the end till he realizes that life is serious. He is smart, charming his way into jobs and offering his best services. He has so much bad luck with accommodation, mostly because he tries to play the fool of everyone, which he succeeds at most of the time. Randy leaves a bad trail of misunderstanding between himself, housemates and landlords. He is bubbly, offering good company to whomever he was with. As the story progresses, Randy is torn between choices at every stage of his life. Does he make the right ones?
The story is exciting as well as significant, in some instances humorous which I enjoyed. The plot comes out well as events unfold and characters grow with unexpected turn out of events. The style of the writer is direct but leaving some scenarios unfinished, shortening enthusiasm with the introduction of other scenes. The characters are active making bare real life circumstances. Language on the other hand becomes vulgar with certain choices of words. These could have been reduced by using synonyms of such words, making meaning in all circles. On the other hand, considering the origin of the writer and the race of which he writes, he may be pardoned.
Let’s consider the story as modern yet cutting across a whole generation of people passing through a stage in life where everything you decide to do reflects on the people around you, thus putting you in the spotlight. The energy generated in certain scenarios is emotional, offering an array of senses to be aroused. Minor slips in wording gave different meanings to sentences at certain times.
The writer is indulging, he will keep you interested till the end, and when you don’t expect it, the story comes to an end. I can agree that it was on a good note to finish the story, but you would want to know more and less all at the same time because you can relate with the hero.
I give it 3 out of 4 stars because of the little hitches encountered with spelling, but on the other hand, I would love for everyone to get a copy and read this book. The lessons to be learned are vast and would make for a good laugh as well.
