Katherine Smith wrote:I like your review and I agree with you that I can't imagine why anyone would want to live a life of those that are rich. I like that this story makes the reader see true relationships and that money does not guarantee happiness. My favorite characters are the help who keep the family together despite all of the turmoil that goes on in the house. This book sounds more realistic in its depiction of family life and the years it takes to develop a friendship or romance.
It was really more about rich combined with famous being a difficult life, not as easy as people might expect. I did not mean to imply that there is something wrong with having wealth. But you are right, money does not buy happiness.

Thanks for the review! I just downloaded the book to read and now I know I made a good decision. I am not much into sports, but I do enjoy a book that executes conflict really well. I'm very curious about how the first initial move into the new home affects him.

I like that the relationships in the book aren't 'insta-relationships', but I just don't know if this' my kind of deal.

Sounds like this book is nicely paced in terms of relationships and character growth, which is something that can be severely lacking in books. Thanks for the review!

I don't think I'd classify this as a YA novel. Perhaps for a mature older teen. Maybe. There are some pretty tough topics, including heavy drugs and domestic violence.

Wow, I especially like that you said this is a book where relationships are allowed to develop naturally, rather than being forced into a matter of weeks. Sounds interesting to me!

The book addresses the challenges orphaned teenagers and young adults often face when they are placed under the care of very close relations. Thus, the protagonist of Guardian of Deceit, Darwin, is not alone in his ordeal in the real world.
"Sometimes I find myself sitting in one spot for hours, staring at nothing, feeling nothing, and most disturbingly, caring about nothing".

"...more realistic, with the stronger bonds taking years to develop to that strength."

I definitely believe, as this reviewer, that many fiction books try to shortcut through the process of getting to know someone. That tends to pull me out of a story... this book sounds different.
