Hmm, sounds like it doesn't quite deliver what it promises. And what an odd subtitle! Thanks for the honest review.
"Every reader is, while he is reading, the reader of his own self. The writer's work is merely a kind of optical instrument which he offers to the reader to enable him to discern what...he would perhaps never have perceived in himself."

A very good review of the book. I honestly think this book isnt for everyone. I dont enjoy reading stories about child abuse and violence in any form, but im sure others who are more strong hearted can give it a shot.

Cup of Evil, by E. Groat, is a suspenseful, political novel with tons of well-developed characters.

This book sounded super intriguing to me when I read the synopsis but this:
On the other end of the spectrum is Beckman (who I still have to look up to remember his name), a man who literally has no redeeming qualities and is as evil as they come. Despite being an absolutely horrible, despicable excuse of a human being he really wasn't much of an antagonist at all.

That would really bug me. It doesn't sound like he is a three-dimensional antagonist at all and I think that's super important in books like this. Well, I think it's super important in all books really. I hate when they are just 100% evil and that is the root reason they're up to their shenanigans. I know you shouldn't side with a villain, but there should be some sort of relatable aspect to them. I think.

The fact that this was the thing you disliked most about the book and still gave it three stars makes me think it might still be worth a read. Thank you for the wonderful review!

I kinda had a little difficulty following the story, even through the review..which is articulately done, I must say... However, I've made it a point of duty to run away from books that have the potential of losing my interest, those that won't keep me on my toes, so I'm definitely gonna pass on this one. Great job again!

Great review. The story really sounds flat. I don't think I would be reading this book any time soon. Your honesty is highly appreciated

Thanks for the detailed review. It does sound like this book kind of rambles on instead of being an edge-of-the-seat thriller.

"Cup of evil." That title got me anticipating to read a fast paced, 'unputdownable' book. A little disappointing that it falls through in the middle but your review got me willing to give the book a try.

Political thrillers really have the potential to hit hard if they are done well enough. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve read a sample of this one, but it sounds like, at the very least, it keeps you on your toes and turning the pages.

Good review on this book about a couple fighting against an evil slum lord. This book doesn't sound like my cup of tea due to the meandering plot, flat story line, and multiple characters with similar-sounding names that are difficult to keep track of, making reading more of a chore than it needs be.

Awesome review! I enjoy crime and mystery novels! The plot and characters sounds great! There seems to be a little too much information in the title though. Congrats on book of the day!

A hard-worked review, though I don't find the book pleasurable because of the seemingly horrible events it portrays.

Political thrillers have a certain charm that I can't resist. Murder, corrupt politicians and secrets to uncover! I do prefer books that keep me hanging on my seat, though. I will still give this book a try. Thank you for the insightful review.

Corruption, politics are not the topics for me. Though I'm sure the book will find its reader as judging by the review of the book it must be an intense reading.
