Unbalanced, by Courtney Shepard is about four sisters, Asha, Mere, Avia, and Ivy; who have been separated at birth due to the ancient powers that course through them. Each Sister grows up without knowing of the others, but learns to master their specific power. Asha discovers that things are not as they seem when she runs into a man in the middle of a South American jungle, who is not who he says he is. Clay captures Asha and imprisons her in the Order's dungeons. The Order has been hunting the sisters for their powers throughout history.

After discovering the Order is not who they portray themselves as, Clay and his three brothers help Asha escape and find her sisters. Once united the sisters discover that their separation at birth was to keep them safe. Upon learning that the are still in grave danger together they pair off with one of the brothers to different locations around the world in search of clues to defeat the Order. It is during this time that one of the sisters becomes captured by the Order. The three remaining sisters and all four brothers rally together and form a rescue mission. It is during this rescue mission that the sisters learn to join powers and deal the Order a devastating blow.

I like that Courtney Shepard incorporated the four brothers with elemental powers as a balance to the sisters ancient powers. They make the sisters more human and relatable. They, also, seem to bring out the tender and vulnerable side of each of the women. What I wasn't a fan of was how in the beginning the storyline focused on Asha, but as the book went on the story moved away from her and seemed to be more centralized on the sisters as a whole. It would have been better if the focused remained on Asha.

The one thing I liked most about the story was how Clay's character seemed to balance out Asha's fiery personality. Asha likes to come to snap judgements about people, which sort of blinds her to the real reason behind some of the actions in the story. Clay helps to bring her to a more neutralized level so she is able to think a little more clearly. There is also the symbolization of the earth and fire elements together. They give a grounding and balance to each other that the other elements do not have with these particular two. What I like the least was the fickle emotions Asha seemed to have towards Clay. One minute she was happy, and trusting and the next she was ready to burn him to a crisp. It was almost as if she wanted there to be something for her to hold against Clay as a buffer in case he got to close to her; so that she had a reason to lash out.

I would give Unbalanced 4 out of 4 stars. The book was good reading, it kept me interested and urged me to read "just" one more chapter when I knew I probably shouldn't. The book was professionally written and edited with very little to no typos or errors. Overall this was a very well done story.

The demograpic for this story is those individuals who like suspenseful, romantic fantasy stories that leave you wanting more. There is a touch of adventure and mystery as well. This story had a bit of everything. Readers will find this story a smooth and seamless read.
