In Heaven and Earth by Arturo Riojas, four individuals from different backgrounds must become a team and work together to save Earth’s population. They are brought together under mysterious circumstances and break the law in an effort to right a massive wrong. They are eventually approached by three extraterrestrials that may hold the key to their success. The aliens offer help, but this support comes at a price. Can these two species work together to ensure their survival or will everything fail?

This book is similar to a third party study into the human population. We are watched and our actions are brought into questions. The aliens watch humans from their beginning to present day. The author did a great job at making unbiased observations throughout this book. Riojas incorporated many events including Area 51 and the Tuskegee medical experiments into Heaven and Earth. The mashup of facts and science fiction was expertly done.

Many conspiracy theories were also touched on throughout the book. The characters mention the role that extraterrestrials played throughout Earth’s history from their involvement with the Mayans to their presence at Roswell. The author also includes the theory that the government has cures for multiple diseases, but instead of curing the disease they treat it to make more money. When writing about theories I generally find the book to either be too insane or too childish, but this was a great medium.

I thought the facts on cadmium poisoning at the end of each chapter would take away from the story, however the exact opposite was true. Riojas states in the introduction that the reader may chose to overlook the facts, but I would discourage that. The facts allow the reader to understand the story better and relate not only to the human characters but also to the aliens.

There is nothing that I would change in Heaven and Earth. I did not notice any grammatical or spelling mistakes while reading the book. This book is one that can stand the test of time. I believe that at an earlier time this book would have been banned due to some of the content. The way that the author presents the material really makes the reader think. If a reader is looking for a great read that makes them question society, this is the book for them. I would recommend that everyone reads this book. I give it 4 out of 4 stars.

Thank you for your review. I have read and recommended the book too. It makes us think more not only about the food we eat, but also about everything that is going on around us in the world.
