Nice review. This book sounds interesting and for fans of memoirs, American history, and people who would like to learn about other cultures and those that immigrated to this country. Thanks for sharing.

I'm pretty sure this book is not for me, as I'm not interested in its subject matter. I also don't care for memoirs or historical fiction. Additionally, you mentioned time jumps and scene changes making things somewhat disconcerting, which is a big negative for me. I'm glad you enjoyed aspects of this book, but I'll pass on reading it myself.

Thanks for your review! The diversity of the cast is perfect for an immigrant story. The line during the sex scene would have disturbed me as well.

It seems that the author could use some time editing down the cast to make a more comprehensive story.

From the sample I read, I can definitely see how jumping from family to family is a bit disorienting and difficult to follow.

I liked the beginning. The imagery of California is beautiful. The timeline history is very well organized. The history of California is well researched, he seems like a very smart author. I enjoyed that he put in different languages makes it more authentic.

This sounds like an interesting book with a huge cast of characters to keep track of. Glad that the authors lays them all out in the front for reference.

The book does sound interesting. The diverse characters does sound like it could get overwhelming to the reader. I agree with you psychopathycathy playing down the seriousness of rape leaves a lot to be desired.

Hmm! Every writer gat its own style of word and his or her style of word is what his or her book will carry. The book above is wide in meaning thus the writer is trying to send a message to the readers. Going through the review i saw that the book has alot of realities and this are not just book realities but they are very real in our life. For me the book deserve more than 2 rate because its just amazing.

Thank you for your review. It seems really interesting. A century is a long time. I wonder how the descendants of the three immigrant families are affected by the bond that their ancestors shared.

Your review makes this seem like an excellent book to put some of the smaller day-to-day issues that people complain about into perspective. The themes and issues that this book covers encompass many of the same issues we are dealing with today (sad since this book is set almost 60 years ago). Seems like an interesting read for people who enjoy historical fiction, just not a book for me.
