I wouldn't mind a lot of dragon battles in a movie or tv show but it is different in a book. I typically skim through those parts if there is no solid storyline.

An interesting plot, a child raised by dragons. This sounds interesting, but more along the lines of a young adult book.

Interesting work...I found the going of the two dragon souls very interesting...especially the exchange between the queen and her king...it was really well thought of...Never imagined a dragon romance but it was lovely.

From reading your review and the sample chapter I think I would get bogged down in the battle scenes. This seems like it would be better portrayed as a movie although the concept does intrigue me and your review intrigued me further especially in regards to Kaida's development.

Nice review. I can understand how the dragon battles could become tedious but still sounds like a good one.

Thank you for the in-depth review oft he Legend of the Dragon Child by Cheryl Rush Cowperthwait. It sounds like a story that a young adult would enjoy about dragons. Based on your review, it appears to be a coming of age story about one of the dragons that is hatched. A book on dragons does not appeal to me but I know others who would love this book.

The sample didn't impress me, so I was surprised by the perfect rating. But the reviewer mentions that the book redeems itself later. By all that is dragon, I may give it a chance. I wonder what adventures Kaida and Zlemtec will face.

Dragon stories fascinate me. Dragons, as mythical creatures permeate literature of many cultures, western and oriental. I do find parallel stories to this in films and books, but this one differs by the twists that make the storyline still a bit unique. It reminds me more of Tarzan, being raised by the apes, so he became an apeman, capable of hanging and shuttling on vines. In this story, Kaida developed proximity to the dragons, being reared alongside dragon siblings. I could not remember tigers rearing babies to become tiger man or elephants doing the same to produce elephant boy or girl. These would make wonderful storylines. Thank you for your wonderful review, I have made this book included in my shelves' "want to read" list.

Even though today's BOTD is one I'm not interested in reading, your review told the story quite well...thank you! I love the unique storyline; including a child is super engaging. This sounds like a great read for lovers of this genre! :-)

The concept and world are definitely intriguing, but the writing is a bit of a miss for me. The pacing is just too quick at times (it's like everything is on fast forward, speeding by and glossing over what feels like important moments) and the dragons don't... feel like dragons. They have wings and claws, but otherwise feel very humanoid. At one point, one of them puts a leather bag under his arm?

One reviewer said this reads for teens, but I'd go even younger than that. I'd peg this for the 8-12 year old range, roughly. I think teens want more depth to their reading and this just glosses past character interactions and plot points way too quickly (which is what you see in a lot of middle grade writing) to focus more on action.

It sounds like a fun read. I'm not sure if I'll be thrilled with the battle scenes either (just based on previous reading experience), but as long as I can get through them it sounds like I'll enjoy it. Thanks for the review!

Good to hear that you were engaged from the start and it was only the dragon battles that became a little long. I confess I had some initial difficulty with the new world and working out who was who. It was also a different writing style to some of the classic fantasy books I’ve read, with some explanations and statements made that I think are often un- and understated. Often the action tells the story rather than it being specifically articulated. I did like the play on ‘Urthe’ for ‘Earth’, and my interest was heightened by characters and conversation.
