Well written review. After reading just the first few chapters you don't get that there is a doctor involved or that there is a watch that can predict the owner's death. I was on the fence about this book due to the little amount I was able to read on my own.
However, your review has made it sound so much more interesting.
I love a bit of syfy in my stories and this sounds like it would provide that for those like me, however you included the caution about gun control and the pro's and con's about it, and the anti-gun position of the book; I would find that hard to read as I am pro gun ownership to an extent.

This seems intriguing with Vince having a for and against gun conversation with himself. And I love anything with dogs as long as I'm sure there's a happy ending for the cute doggie. However, it also gives the vibe of just being angry at the gun situation and bitter about being old. It seems just as likely to be thought provoking as something to make me angry and there's enough to be angry about in the real world without a book to provide more reasons.

I really appreciate your candidness in regards to the sensitivity of the topics the author presents. It is awful to get into a great story, only to be put off by a topic or agenda you don't want to read about. I see the pros and cons to the issue of gun control/gun ownership so I am interested to read the authors take on it. Such a relevant book. So many times, just this week, I have heard about threats (both verbal and physical) regarding guns at schools. Very clever of Fleischer to present such a controversial topic in an appealing format. I've already started reading and already think his writing is wonderful. You can tell from the first section of dialogue whether an author has skill and I'm enjoying the interaction between Vince and Trudi. I hope the rest of the characters will turn out to be as interesting. From your review, I trust they will be.

I already had a chance to sample this novel, but the review helped refresh my memory. Death prediction theme is nothing new, but I like that the author chose to write both about advantages and, more importantly, disadvantages of such a device. I didn't expect it to include problems about gun ownership, but I think that's what makes this book stand out. It's not just a fiction story, but also an eye-opener.

The novel tie two topics together. Knowing when you will die and having the access to guns easily. That is terrifying. There is a Judge after death so shooting people before you die does have consequences after death.

This review perked my attention and is tempting me to get a copy of the book. In audition to everything that has been said already, I love the fact that the book includes various perspectives, from the doctors that created the machine to a regular elderly couple. Not to mention that, according to this review, the characters are well written on top of an already complicated 'science based' fiction, that is very impressive. Beautifully executed review.

Great review! The notion of knowing when your last day will be is something I am definitely not interested in knowing. Intertwining this thought with how people react to this knowledge is intriguing. May be a must read for me.

Great review . I love a book that leaves you pondering on a subject even when you've put it down. I can see the dilemma that the doctors have. You can never tell how someone will react when they hear their time has come. Such a different concept to take on in a book. I look forward to reading it.

The watch is certainly an interesting premise. I wish the story did not have to tie in guns since it's something I personally wish would go away rather than get highlighted. Kudos to the author for writing for relevancy though.

A novel that debates gun ownership through the lives of three-dimensional characters, while maintaining a humorous tone, is a curious novel.
As I followed Vince's internal debate about protecting his ego and self with a gun; I approved of his initial resistance to the idea, understood his desire to not be pushed aside- whether metaphorically and literally, and was apprehensive at Vince's and Trudi's near indifference to the increasing profusion of guns, I began to think even as I smiled to myself. I have only read the preview but I intend to read this book and think even more, and smile more, and laugh more, and perhaps cry a little.
Thank you, the seemingly high character count was also a significant negative for me. Your review combined with the preview made me not only curious but determined to read Final Notice.

I have already been reading this book and am about a quarter of the way through it. It is such a good read and I'm glad I had chosen to read it! It tackles these topics like life and death and murder, gun ownership and the mistreatment of the elderly with just the right amount of care, but also showing how things can go terribly wrong.
