Official Review: Stop Chasing Weekends by Maja Golob

Maja Golob, owner of the company Spago, had a car accident that changed her perspective about life. She had always put her work before her children, husband, family, and friends. The car accident made her realize she wanted to have a more balanced and meaningful life. She also had always wanted to write but never found time for it. The time to do it was now. For that reason, Golob wrote Stop Chasing Weekends "to help women who constantly struggle with balancing work-home-family and, in doing so, often forget about their own needs – like I used to do."
Stop Chasing Weekends is a memoir and self-help book consisting of 169 pages. Golob shares how she accomplished a long and successful career in marketing, founded her own company with her husband, and attained a work-life balance. The book is mostly a memoir about Golob's career and the steps she took to find meaning in her life. Moreover, she incorporated simple and engaging challenges and key takeaways for the readers at the end of the chapters. The book also includes 17 steps to find work-life balance and a bonus section in which Golob interviews four successful women.
My favorite aspect of this book was reading about Golob's life. She is a determined, strong, and hard-working woman who has achieved her goals. I enjoyed reading about how she decided to start her own company, Spago, despite having an excellent job. She shows the readers that they can pursue what they really want to do no matter how hard it is at the beginning. I esteemed that she opened up about her struggles with fertility. Many readers will identify with her and see that they are not alone. I also liked reading about what she did to find meaning in her life. I particularly liked reading about how the Nia classes changed her life.
Stop Chasing Weekends will inspire and help readers to achieve a work-life balance. Working mothers will benefit the most from reading this book. They will certainly identify with the author who felt like she had no life. Golob states: "I had a feeling of being torn in two – my job pulling me one way and my family the other." Many working mothers feel just like Golob did. As a result, they will benefit from reading her story and advice.
I rate Stop Chasing Weekends by Maja Golob 3 out of 4 stars. I deducted a star for two reasons. First, the book has several typos and formatting issues, meaning it needs a final editorial revision. Second, I would have liked the author to share more about how she and her husband took care of their children while working such long hours. Did they have help from family members? Did they pay a nanny? The book indicates in the cover that it is only for women. Even though the book will benefit mainly working mothers, I would recommend it to all working parents. I would also recommend it to those working in marketing and direct sales because Golob's career is a great example of success in those professional areas.

Golob is definitely a hard-working person who has achieved lots of goals. She explains how she stopped chasing the weekends. However, like I said, I would have wanted to know more about how she did all that while having two kids. Who took care of them all day and even nights?kandscreeley wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 08:37 I love the title, but I'm confused how she stopped chasing weekends when working so long hours. I guess I'd have to read it to find out, huh? Thanks for the review.

Yes, exactly. One of the reasons I chose the book was to know how she took care of her kids while having a super successful career. I think many parents, particularly busy mothers, would like ideas. Not everybody has family members to help or enough salary to pay a nanny until late hours. So I would have liked her to talk about that in depth. She does not even say who took care of her kids.KFree_Reads wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 13:48 No problem! You're right about that point you made about Golob not disclosing " how she did it all." That is something I am sure readers would like to know, I know I would!

I liked how open she was about her fertility struggles. That was great. And more so when her husband worked the same long hours. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Yes, thanks! The book’s target audience is women, but I think this topic should be for all working parents. Women should not be the only ones taking care of kids and the house while working. Should be both parents. Thanks for reading and commenting!

That's very relevant information that she missed out! I think the book would have resonated with more parents if she had added that information. Readers will definitely question the whereabouts of her children while she was busy juggling it all. I know most parents would read this book to find out how they can still pursue their dreams and ensure their kids are taken care of!Yolimari wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 01:10Yes, exactly. You are completely right. The accident was a wake up call for her. Was quite the workaholic. Thanks for reading and commenting!Penny Lee wrote: ↑12 Mar 2018, 14:37 "The car accident made her realize she wanted to have a more balanced and meaningful life." Very telling -- sometimes a wake up call can be traumatic, but produce good results. I am glad that the author was able to realize the value of relationships over being a workaholic, and hope that her book can help others to do the same.
