I've never loved water big enough to fill a bath tub. So I really didn't want this book until I read this review. I'm in awe of all Jack Walsh achieved through his knowledge and relationship with the sea! This is why I'll read the book. Thanks for this detailed and passionate review.

Being captivated by the sea since an early age is not a run-of-the-mill situation, let alone start fishing at that age. It does call my attention that he used his knowledge about the sea wisely, not only for fishing per se but also in areas related to the weather and production as well. He's really astute. I'm not sure I'll read this story right now, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the review!

This sounds like an enjoyable book to read. I like fishing and fisherman's tales.

I wondered how interesting this could be on the basis of the title, but then again, how could it be dry with all that water around? (Boom boom!) It sounds as if Jack does make the different fishing techniques sound interesting through his narrative, and of course, that feeling of the call of the sea is a special one.
This post was brought to you by the word "specifically".

Although I do enjoy hearing peoples life stories, I'm not into fishing or nonfiction novels. I will read about people who overcame great struggle or lived through bigger disasters/ economic events/ wars; but I'm not interested in learning about a mans love of the sea. This just gives me the old man and the sea vibes, or it would feel that dry to me given my lack of interest in this genre.

I really don't have an interest in fishing, but it might be interesting to read. I'm glad that you enjoyed the story. A few swear words never bothered me. Good review!

I really like fishing and have very fond memories of doing so on my grandparents' farm when I was young, yet I'm not interested in this story. I think because it reads much like an autobiography or memoir and I don't like either of those things. I just know that if it had been my child (or grand) who disappeared onto a fishing boat at the age of 6, he would have gotten a major butt-swatting and then I would have smacked myself for letting him disappear like that! But I digress. Great job on the review, even though I'm not personally convinced.

The character of Jack sounds interesting but I just hate fishing so much that I do not think I could get past that to enjoy this book. Very highly praised though!

Nice review, its a good one as it is from your review, I'll say that its a pursuit of passion that Mr. Walsh did which landed him to want he loves to do.

Thanks for the interesting review. Usually, my knee-jerk reaction to seeing a book that is non-fiction and fishing is to run the other way and say no! But I think that I'll give this book a chance. Saying that the book reads more like an adventure than a dry rout biography has piqued my interest.

I used to enjoy fishing as a child, so I'm sure this book would be full of nostalgia for me. I'm glad it was more interesting than the topic of fishing would suggest!
