Interesting. Right away, I feel much like you did. The novel doesn't sound like it would be very exciting. However, based on your description, I guess I'll have to read a few pages before I dismiss it completely.

I read only the first page and could not keep interest in the book. I restarted from the beginning three times. I kept stopping when they rowed to the Queen of the bay. The review sounds like the book has promise. Since I did download the book, I want to give it a try. I may find the story entertaining.

You summarise the plot quite effectively, but I wish that you had stated that the book is set in South Africa. In that way, you could have shown that the work caters for both the general worldwide market, as well as for the specific niche market of Southern Africa.

I don't really enjoy fishing nor reading books about the subject, so I don't think this is the book for me. I am glad, however, that the author added some adventure elements in addition to a serious, non-fictional story. Thank you for the review.

I just read some of the beginning and really enjoyed it. Both of my parents loved to fish when I was younger. I will recommend it to my mom, but unfortunately I can't recommend it to my dad because he passed away three years ago from lung cancer.

I’m not really interested in non-fiction, usually, but the reviewer’s opinion that this book reads more like an adventure does make it more entising. I always admire people such as Jack, who have such a strong passion and aren’t afraid to pursue it.

I love it when a book surprises you. I often go into historical account books and autobiographies with the same trepidation.

Your words about Jack Walsh's relationship with the ocean reminds me of a choral song I adore called "Kali's Song". One of the lines goes, "Give a boy a boat, and you've lost him forever. Give a boy a boat and he'll sail across the seas. When he comes back home he'll never be the same. Give a boy a boat and he's gone." I almost wish I could show Walsh that song, because I believe it would be the anthem of his life.
