I think teenage affairs can happen in any year. Natalie liked that Mr. Glover saw her as a woman and it was her way of feeling more grownup. There's a documentary series on Netflix about this called Age {Gap} Love.

Oooh, good note! I'll have to look that one up! You're right though that it has happened over the years. I've just remembered that Lara in Dr. Zhivago is another example of this, it too was written in the 1950s.

My initial thought was to say that it's more prominent now than it was then because we hear of it more now, but then I realised that it's probably as a few people wrote above, that it was more swept under the rug at that time and also with the rise of the internet and rising connectivity, news just spreads faster now. It's potentially more 'acceptable' today as well, whereas it would have been a hugely taboo subject in the 50's.

I do believe youth today are more independent and liberated they exercise more freedom to the extent of breaking some rules.I do also have teenagers guided by love and discipline. Extramarital affairs are still happening today or even more worst than before.

I believe teenage affairs were prominent back then, but you hear more about them today. This is because such news is quickly spread through social media. There are all kinds of apps today that would enable teens and adults to talk in private as well such as Snapchat, where messages and pictures disappear almost instantly.

I believe it is more scandalous in the 1950's however, because of social media it is seen as more common now.

I believe it has always been a thing. I just think that you hear more stories about it now. I think today, with social media and reality tv we just, it is harder to keep this out of the public eye

You have to remember that there have always been different social norms throughout history. It wasn't that long ago that being married at 14 was acceptable. I still know older couples who were married between the ages of 14-17 with permission from their parents, so I don't think it would be uncommon for this type of situation. In 'older times' it was common to marry for status and then have affairs, as long as it wasn't made public and this often still happens today, no matter what the age of other person is, but I'll say this -it's rare you ever find a man who cheats on his wife with an older woman. I don't know if it's different for women who cheat, but still.

It's difficult to say one way or the other; even the most accurate data is insufficient. The real question is what causes this sort of thing to happen.

This is an interesting question. I wonder if this has always happened to some extent, but people perhaps waited rather than eloping? Not sure really, but it was more taboo I think in the 1950s.

I think it was a lot easier to hide it in the '50s! It's a lot more difficult these days to try and sneak around, or have affairs. As was said before, social media has a way of bringing the secrets out of the closet :)

Yes, teenagers still have intimate relationships with married people. This practice is even common these days because civilization has brought much freedom.

I certainly agree that such affairs appear more common now than they did in the 50's or 60's due to the rapid development of technology for news dissemination. But apart from the easy exposure now, I'm also putting into consideration the fact that the world in general has degenerated into severe moral decadence such that brazen conducts are no longer just performed in secret, they are even sought after with such alarming alacrity. So, it is safe to say that teenage affairs alongside others that keep popping up are actually worse than in the past due to the times we're living in.

I believe these relationships have been going on since the beginning of recorded history. If you look back through the history of the US, through our presidency, you will see this. Look back at the rich in the south, they had affairs with young slaves.
In the 1970's and 1980's, students were proud of having an affair with a teacher. It was like a prize. I believe it still is like a prize now, but we are more conscious of the legal implications. And with the social media and other forms of instant news and communication, we just hear about this more.

I think that today it is only much more accessible information to people not personally involved. But that infatuation and feelings, to younger or older, were known throughout centuries.
