I am an English editor and proofreader, as well as a teacher. Naturally, I loved the topic of this book, and having the ostriches and birds as characters is adorable. I especially loved the page in the middle of the book, at the center of attention, the illustration of the library with no writing on it. That was a lovely touch and mimicked the Word Collector's difficulty in speaking out the words. Good work!!

Wow the review makes this book sound like a winner. I have small children so I am always looking for educational lessons weaved into fun stories. The plot of this book using Priscillas lost words to form a story seems like kids would stay very attentive throughout. Thanks for the review!

Thank you for this nice review. I have no young children in my life right now to share this but I truly enjoyed it. The illustrations are just as you described and are indeed adorable and will delight the young reader. Most of the words are easy to read and the noted exceptions will definitely broaden the young reader's vocabulary. And this is a novel concept to teach the parts of speech and good grammar early on.

Being an English teacher, I can't help but be excited for Elementary teachers about today's #BOTD! It sounds wonderful, as does the author. I love that she also has a workbook (available to purchase separately) that is perfectly aligned with CCSS, and did I read on Amazon that this is going to be a series?! How awesome! What a great review, the book seems very nice for young learners and from books such as this it will create young learners intrest to read more, and with characters such as birds, this will definately catch the young leaners attention and intrest.

When she’s at the grocery store, she finds words like ‘bread,’ ‘bake,’ ‘carefully,’ and ‘sweet.’ It would be easy to encourage kids to join these related words together into sentences – a great classroom or homeschool activity.

I really like how the words Priscilla collects are written as if they are on ruled paper, just like kids use in school. Maybe this will encourage kids to do just as Priscilla does, go to the grocery store and other places and start discussing words and classifying them as they shop.

This is absolutely an adorable book. I'm, of course, not a kid and don't even have kids but I loved it. This is one kids could read over and over again to remind themselves of what those 4 parts of speech are and what some examples include.

This is definitely an adorable book, and I hope children who read it will be able to use it to further their knowledge about adverbs and adjectives. It is sad the number of adults today who do not know or even care about using parts of speech incorrectly, even if they are writing professionally. I am glad that you enjoyed the novel!

Thank you for this great review! I don't have children myself yet, but I'm really happy to see that in today's techie world, there are still great books written for children. You said "Words like ‘leprechaun’ and ‘legendary’ may lead to some trips to the dictionary." I think that's great! It'll push children to learn more vocabulary (as you later noted) and teach them to be proactive in solving problems; i.e., searching for the meaning of a word they don't know. Very nicely done!
