I read Emergency Contact by Mary HK Choi and I'd give it 4/5 stars.

It's flirty and fun, great romance for the digital age.

I just finished re-reading Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs. I rate it as 4 of 5 stars. I enjoy the interplay of the vampire and werewolf communities in the story with the 'regular' human police detective. I am going to re-read the entire Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
I give it all the stars, it transports me back to my middle school days when I first read it. Plus, it's honestly a thrilling, heartbreaking, angsty read.

Tomato Rhapsody by Adam Schell is a strangely written tale of medieval Tuscany and the 'almost true' version of the introduction of the humble but ubiquitous tomato into Italian culture.

In fact, food plays a prominent role in this bawdy tale of love, lust and forbidden fruit. Olives, cheese, pizzas, truffles and other gastronomic delights (in addition to tomatoes) feature throughout the story and underpin most of the activities of the village characters.

The writing is frequently bawdy, but not in a crude way, with frequent references to appendages, genitalia and acts of romance. It is written in a manner that adds to the humour of the tale.

Although this was a bit of fun and the story had plenty of enjoyable and colourful moments, I found it to be just a bit too corny, and was put off by the author's tendency to insert various asides directed at the reader to almost explain his story.

OK, but not one I would highly recommend. 3 stars out of 5.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

I've just finished Miss Carter's War by Sheila Hancock, it's about a school teacher who served in the Special Operations Executive in WW2 and covers pretty much the rest of her life. It offers good insight into British culture in the 50s, 60s and 70s in particular. I gave it 3/4. It's a good read and deals with some social issues that some readers may find challenging, specifically in relation to the Gay Liberation movement.

Heartaches 2 by H.M. Irwing and the rating was 3 out of 4 stars. The errors in the book were few but the narration technique was quite poor and one could easily lose track of the development of the story especially at the beginning.

I just completed 'The Buried Secrets of Peonies' by Mernegar Dorgoly. It's a historical fiction discussing the experiences of the victims of the 1988 Massacre in Iran. I strongly recommend this book. It's an anthology of 8 shorties and I gave it 4 out of 4 stars.

Latest Review: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi

Post by Carmen-17 »

The last book I read was The Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi. It was an interesting read about a Siberian kitty and her adventures to become “Detective Cat Par Excellence”. It’s the second book in the Inca Book Series. Children 8-12 years old and animal lovers will enjoy the humour in the story. I gave the book 3 out of 4 stars.
