This was a very comprehensive review, which gave me more than enough information to form my own opinion on it. It doesn't sound like something I'd read, just based on the summary, but I usually make that decision based on the writing more than the story.

My one problem with this review is that I would have liked more detail on the rest of the parts of the book, other than the plot. You say that it's 'well written', but that isn't very helpful. How? Good dialogue? Good descriptions? For me, who cares hugely about the writing itself, this is a bit like describing a movie as 'pretty'.

While there is much to appreciate about this book, I’m not sure it’s right for me. I would prefer to steer clear of books which delve into psychic powers, Tarot cards, and similar topics. Thank you for the enlightening review!

Great review. This book 'THE SKYE IN JUNE BY JUNE AHERN' seems to be a very interesting read. It has a historical undertone and features a tale of gender inequality, religious bias/discimination and mysticism in a congenial manner. The book can easily be confused as an autobiography because the protagonist and the author have the same first name.
Above all, I love the review because I was carried along step by step and it sparked a genuine interest to read the whole book.

I like novels which involve love of family. This book seems to be a blend of that and mystery. It is going to be in my priority reading list. Congrats!

Thank you for the review, and it seems like an enjoyable book to read. The part about the four sisters do seem intriguing, and does remind me slightly of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. I would definitely be interested in how Ahern addresses gender inequality in the book, as the 1950s was a tumultuous transition period for feminism (since women were starting to fight for socioeconomic rights).

Thanks for the review. It is nicely written and expounds much on the content of the book without using too much words. I hope that June finally gets to be accepted as she is.

I'm already interested in reading the book thanks to your great review. It must feel good to have psychic abilities but this wasn't the case for June since no one was willing to accept her the way she was except for Mrs G and Ms. Noel. I'm also interested because of my experience with Catholicism and also a little knowledge about being pagan.

Your review is well detailed and I also dislike the father's belief that women shouldn't go to college.

The fact that a little girl with powers seems pretty interesting, though I'm not sure how I feel about the religious parts, especially the paganism. I won't be very happy if Catholicism is not written about correctly. There are a lot of stupid things people have made up about it, and this book should not be giving them the light of day. Not sure if I'll enjoy this story, but I'll still give it a try.

This is an amazing piece of historical fiction that I found myself appreciating from the first page. I rated the book 3 out of 4 stars and would definitely recommend the onlinebookclub review before starting the book.

From your review the book sounds interesting. If June can be herself and make her own life in spite of the constraints imposed on her, it will speak for a majority of women in this world, who are still far from being independent. I'd like to know what happens... Thank you for this review.

So it is a tight family nit story which has social involvement of gender inequality and the women work out to get it. Rather a historical fiction read I think. Fascinating! Reminded me of a lot women in the british history who tried to win their rights. Inspiring read for people who are interested in gender inequality struggles. Thank you!

From this review it seems that some parts of the book would be quite sad. Especially as the reviewer talks about June being treated badly in school and being all alone. It seems like an interesting story though. There appears to be a nice contrast from the bullying with the love and relationships of the sisters and the way she doesn't pay attention to what other people say about her.
