Charles Dickens

What do you think of Charles Dickens? Have you read much of his work? Did you like it?

I've only read two things by him, a christmas carol and a tale of two cities. both were really good and i enjoyed them a lot.

A Christmas Carol is referenced so often in pop culture that you basically have to read it. Oliver Twist is a great book. Charles Dickens may or may not be overrated, but either way his is still a great author.

i read it when i was in the 6th grade. i can remember reading it and saying to myself that im not going to like this but i ended up really loving it. it was so good.

I have read A Tale of Two Cities....it was difficult to plow through at first but in the end it was a good book.....Oliver twist I really enjoyed

Nobody has ever told me that they do not like Charles Dickens. He is definitely one of those beloved authors.

My friend, a voracious reader, absolutely abhors Charles Dickens. I think he deems Dickens to be far too verbose. Personally, I haven't read enough of Dickens to form a justifiable opinion.

i havent read as much as i should have but i love him then again, i do have a bit of a love affair with victorian novels. however i must admit i couldnt get interested in a tale of two cities the first time around...maybe i should give it another go. i have it on good authority that david copperfield should be mandatory reading though so i will definitely read that one soon!

I think he is a tremendous author. Yes he can be verbose – but given he was effectively 'paid by the word' writing in serialised novels, that can be forgiven (maybe? well certainly by me)
We had to do David Copperfield and Tale of Two Cities at school, and that might have finished things for me, but I re-read them years later and was hooked. I know he has been slated by modern authors but I love his characters - they are all of a different age so can be as implausible as they like.
..and my favourite The Pickwick Papers ...... Boz lives on!

I don't know, but I think if I wanted to be in touch with the dimness of reality, I would just step outside or read a news paper.

lol very cute! yeah he is dark...but someone has to go there at times, and of course like you said if that isn't enough one can always step out on the curb...or browse the papers.
