Book Journal?

Post by Meka »

I was thinking about keeping a book journal, something along the lines of date I started the book, date I finished it, and my thoughts on the book. Anyone else keep a journal like this or does it seem like it would be a waste of time?

That sounds like a great idea. I might try that.

Or you could start a blog and use it for that purpose; that is what I did. I started a blog some time ago with the intention of posting book reviews of the books I had read. Its other intention was to use it to keep track of the books I had read; I sometimes read so much within a particular genre that I would pick up a book and wonder if I had read it already. So I thought about creating a list on paper or a journal. But I finally decided to post reviews on a blog. That way, other people get to read my thoughts on a book rather than creating a simple list that sits in my home and does little else. Plus the blog is searchable if I ever find myself wondering if I have read a book already. (I suppose an Excel spreadsheet would be searchable too).

And I also post some reviews in other forums. That serves as a tracking method too.

If you do post on here how it works, sounds good.

@David, is it a lot of work to create and maintain a blog?

Depends which route you take.

Blogger, a free service offered by Google (and there are others), is quick and easy. You could probably be up and blogging within 30 minutes with Blogger.

Or, if you want to set a blog up on your website, that would take a little more effort. Again, there are some free (i.e. - WordPress) and paid services available to help out.

I think one problem most blogs have is simply keeping them current. Once they are up and running, many bloggers make several posts, then run out of ideas, and stop making posts. Sometimes I visit a blog and notice that the last post was made in 2008. Sometimes the information is not time-sensitive, so it doesn't matter, but it doesn't reflect well on a blog when it looks abandoned.

It seems to be very helpful and supportive to me.

I keep a book journal but in a form of blog (i.e. wordpress and through reviews.)

If you want to start a book club, check out this awesome blog http://onehundredonebooks.wordpress.com/. I have been reading it for the past year and it has some good contents. The author is really good but not arrogant. Check it out XD

I would choose up a publication and marvel if I had read it already. So I considered about conceiving a register theoretically or a journal. But I eventually determined to mail reconsiders on a blog. That way, other persons get to read my ideas on a publication other than conceiving a straightforward register that is seated in my dwelling and does little else.

I believe Moleskin came out with one, as well as a wine, fitness and film journal

That sounds like a great idea...that I wish I had time for. I just work too much, except when I'm on here, which is when I should be asleep!
How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure.
