Sounds like he might have learned to channel his painful emotions through karate. Thanks for the excellent review!

Thanks for a fascinating review - this sounds like an interesting book. I think the martial arts would put me off a bit, but the depiction of damaged person than indulging in high risk-taking behaviour in the middle of a war does interest me, as I've read something similar about WWI.

The effect of childhood experiences on a person is indeed very critical. I'm sure it was difficult for the author to retell everything in just this one book. I'm not sure if I can handle the sadness in this book, but I may give this one a try soon. Thanks for your review :)

Yes, karate provided so much healing for Michael, not to mention discipline and responsibility. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Thank you for your comments! The book is heavy in the martial arts department ;)

Thanks so much for commenting! There's really not much in the way of sadness in the book. The author focuses more on his adult experiences (especially karate) that lead to him ultimately facing some long-held emotions.

I think the things that happen to us as children do have a very profound effect on us. Sometimes even if the child doesn't remember what happened to them on a conscious level. Thank you for your review. I am very interested in this book.

You're right. Children often don't fully comprehend the gravity of the horrific circumstances surrounding them. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment!
