Teetering between hope and despair. There is a fine line that distinguishes the two. The selfless approach of the couple is complementary, but it also seems to irk them. It's faith commingled with doubt. Their faith is pushed to the limit.Sounds like a good read.

Citizen Cárdenas" by Steve Cole.

This is not my usual genre of book. But it didn't not disappoint. It's very intense. And I'm definitely recommending it to my book club and fellow readers.

What stood out to me was the description of such compassion. Plus, Gato does sound like an interesting character. It's so great when the author is able to portray characters so well. Thank you for your insight!

Highly recommended for somebody looking for strong character driven work of fiction. The first person narrative from its three protagonists - Gato , Alexia & George works really well and takes us closer to each of them. The story successfully binds the reader to the characters from the beginning itself. Congrats on being BOTD and all the best :)

This literary novel seems to be an awesome piece. The characters are particularly exciting and nuanced. It's a change of pace from what I'm used to reading, but this is definitely welcome in my library.

A book about the unfairness of life and how compassion and empathy can make it bearable. This is not usually my cup of tea but I'm interested when you mentioned about how the author created his characters with "a distinctive voice and offers a different facet of the story". More often than not, well-written characters make the story more interesting and engaging.

I like the sound of a literary novel with many layers to it and characters with distinctive voices. I'm intrigued that there might be some significance in the fact that George and Alexia are suddenly noticing Gato after 15 years, and about his identity.
This post was brought to you by the word "specifically".

Thank you for your insights into the book, particularly your view that the book's characters each have a distinctive voice. When I read Amazon's synopsis I wasn't sure I wanted to read the book but your review and that fact that you stated the story is character-driven just may have changed my mind.

Thanks for the great review. I liked the idea of finding out you are declared dead and proving it wrong. It is a nice touch that when you don't know what you would do yet there would be people giving a helping hand.
There seems to be lots of interesting twist in the story. Hoping to finish this one.

Wow,what a fascinating novel! It's good to help the helpless just like the couples did.Nothing matters as helping others in need. Thanks for the great review.

A story centered around the tribulations of an immigrant as regards the social issues and bureaucratic measures put up against him. This is quite an interesting plot.

Id like to see how Cárdenas' friends solved the mystery of his identity. Since the book is well written, I might check it out. Thanks for the review.
