Thank you for the really great review. I can completely see your point of view and it seems from the responses the majority agree. To me the sample was entrancing. Tossing the grammar rules out the window appeals to me. It's like the words have gotten loose and run amok, I loved it. So while I can't agree with your opinion on the writing style, I think your review was fantastic.

I really loved reading the Narnia books, but the problems mentioned in this book sway me in the opposite direction. Thanks for a thorough review!

Thank you for your in-depth review! I'd rather bask in a stream of consciousness style of narrative elsewhere. I don't think such a style of writing, blended with profuse intertextuality, is a proper conduit for conveying what the book is all about.

The book sample is a put off and I wouldn't want to go through the same experience you went through while reading this book. It's a no for me.

Thank you for the review of Voyage of Pearl of the Seas. I liked the poetic phrase but I can see why the wording would not appeal to some. I noticed the paragraph, shown as an example, and thought that could be how a person might talk to their young children, interjecting a few words in the midst of the tale to add life to it, and spark their imaginations. I quite enjoyed Ruth's writing style, it made a refreshing change. I think it would be a story suitable for young adults, who enjoy Classical literature, poetry and have an imaginative nature.

While I loved C.S.Lewis' work and also the onlinebookclub review of the book the "voyage of pearl". I would also like to give 2out of 4 for a rather poetric work and a whimsical narrative...

I just read the few pages provided and I couldn't connect with the storyline. It kind of left me a little confused. Thank you for the review, because if I had decided to read the rest, I would have been utterly frustrated.

Your review is very well-written and helpful! I love that you included a sample of the text to help us get a feel for the style. I do feel that there are some kids who will enjoy today's BOTD, so I might give it a try. I like to have a variety of books in various genres for my students to choose from in our classroom library, and this style might appeal to some of them. Thank you so much...I really appreciate your help! :-)

A healthy blend of poetry and Narnia is exactly what I want in a book, ha ha ha. Thanks for the review, your voice really shines through!

I have loved C.S. Lewis’ Narnia series since I was a child and still reread it every few years. A book like this one gives a reader hope of capturing that kind of magic however I think I will pass as I am not a big fan of poetry and most important to me, I really can not get into a story when the writing lacks elementary form such as punctuation and structure.

Well, this C.S. Lewis-loving stickler for commas is so torn! I read the sample of this book and I couldn't decide whether I was annoyed or enchanted by the writing style. I think I'll read it purely because I want to find out what happens to the characters and because it reads like nothing else I've found before, but I suspect the language is ultimately going to keep it from being a favorite. Thanks for your honest review!

The book sounds interesting and if it really resembles C.S. Lewis's book then I'm in. I aso like that the author used some questions in the book that will lead to a discussion which is very good. :techie-studyinggray:

Although I can say straight off the bat that this one isn't for me, it sounds like (if you can get past the grammar/punctuation issues) that this is an ideal YA novel to introduce readers to a more abstract and ethereal style of literature.
