Official Review: Bubbles by Joshua Martinez

It was an accident. They hated the gross clown at Tommy’s birthday party, but the 10-year-old friends certainly never intended for him to die. It was just supposed to be a harmless prank. Author Joshua Martinez tells the tale of Bubbles the Clown’s bloody revenge in Bubbles.
The high school students are preparing for the Homecoming football game. Sarah is particularly excited because she is nominated for Homecoming queen, and her football-star boyfriend, Tommy is her escort for the night. The couple is still in contact with Eric, a boy from the bad side of town. The three were close friends as children and have done their best to put the memory of the horrific birthday party behind them. It’s been seven years, but Bubbles is determined to avenge his death. On a night that should be filled with fun and excitement, Tommy, Sarah, and Eric find themselves in a fight for their lives.
This is horror storytelling at its finest. It is the perfect campfire story for teens and adults. There is just enough blood and gore to satisfy readers of fictional horror stories. The only thing that is missing from this story is the origin of the killer. I was left wondering how the clown rose from the dead. Perhaps the dead man was possessed by some type of evil entity, or the man was involved with a satanic cult when he was alive. This was never explained in the book. Still, the author was able to create an engaging tale in a short story. Each character is beautifully developed and experiences relatable growth. They are believably flawed, and they each have a unique personality.
This well-written story is easy to follow and understand. The author’s expert use of descriptive language creates a pleasurable reading experience. There are a few minor grammar errors throughout the book. These mistakes include missing and misspelled words, but they did not cause distractions or disrupt the flow of the story.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book held my attention through to the end. I was disturbed and captivated at the same time. This horror story is terrifying and suspenseful. I was never exactly sure what Bubbles would do next, but I was certain that it would not be good. When Bubbles, the evil clown, comes for revenge, there is nowhere to run or hide. He will find you, and you will get what you deserve.
