After reading the first few chapters on Amazon, I can see why you thought he did a good job with character development. At first I thought having an opening scene in a bar was a bit cliched, but he did a good job from the start introducing characters and giving a feel for the different personalities. I look forward to reading more.

This sure makes me want to read the book, I'm always drawn literature that expose interesting cultures ..history although not my fav genre I tend to read once in a while and it seems the author did a brilliant job on both fronts.

I never knew Irish had a religion of Catholic or sorts. I know nothing about Ireland really but thanks for the review, bringing faith, action and revenge together is somewhat mouth watering

There is nothing like a thorough and carefully crafted review to make a book sound enticing. I’m especially intrigued because I’m a sucker for well developed characters! I would normally have read the jacket and title and passed on this, but your review has me thinking I’ll add this to my list. Thanks!

This sounds like an interesting read, developing the characters. Joe is definitely going to get himself in trouble pursuing Fiona, but maybe he has an ulterior motive, given the underlying involvement with the Troubles. I like the unusual setting of the boat, presuming that Joe sleeps there.

I’m not one to delve into a book that is detective based but I love your review. To me a good book is one in which you can grow with the character as he/she grows; this book sounds like such a tale. In addition, it shares the richness of Ireland, a place I would love to visit. I think I will eventually give this a read despite the issues you have brought up that can make the book less interesting.

Thanks for the interesting review. Ireland is a place that I would love to visit one day, and so I thought that this would be a good element to help hook me into the story. However, I just don't feel the pull to go and grab this book up and dive in. I like action & adventure but I don't think that this book will appeal to me.

A nice book just like the reviewer said. It is a story of conflict and danger, and also a good way to show that a man who left his heart somewhere is still intact though their is a new infatuation is brewing in. I'd like to know where he grabs that opportunity or if he stays loyal with his love.

I'm not much for romance type books. Wondering how much of the story revolves around Joe being a CIA agent. This review didnt touch much on that. I would like to read it though just because I am a history buff.

This would not be in my top choices of books to read, but the writing on the sample seems top notch. Your review was great and covered all I need to know. Even from the sample I thought the Fiona reaction was silly, why must there always be some romantic theme in so many books?

The sample starts with an Irish pub and sailing, two things I am a stranger to. But the author managed not to turn me off. I would want to know more about the Irish, a most interesting race.
