(i)Superhighway(/i) by Alex Fayman tells the story of Alex Fine and his unique ability to be able to travel the optical highway.

Alex was dropped off at a Los Angeles orphanage as a newborn. He was fostered a couple of times, but unfortunately, due to matters out of his control, he was returned to the orphanage and the care of Mrs. Jenkins, the orphanage administrator. At a young age, he becomes obsessed with the internet. A couple of months before starting university a computer lab is installed in the orphanage and this is where Alex discovers his powers. One night when he is using the computer, the monitor suddenly turns off. Alex unplugs the internet cable and is instantly transported to the place he last saw on the internet, Hawaii.

Alex soon realizes that as long as he has an internet connection he can go anywhere. Whilst traveling the optical highway Alex discovers that he can instantly download data to himself, which he can then browse when he is not traveling the internet. It is during this time that Alex realizes that he needs money so that he is able to eat and sleep at his new destinations. Alex uses the information he has gained traveling the internet to transfer money from the accounts of criminals to newly set up bank accounts for himself. Alex soon becomes a very rich young man but then begins to feel uneasy with his newly acquired wealth. Deciding that he needs to give back, Alex starts to give some of his money to the poor and underprivileged.

As Alex’s experiences grow, his relationships with women grow. One woman, Eva, soon becomes an important part of his life. He believes he loves Eva, but easily finds himself distracted by other women and soon becomes unfaithful to Eva, which concludes their relationship.

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought that the idea of being able to travel through the internet was a very interesting concept. The storyline was fast paced and managed to hold my interest until the end of the book. Throughout the book, you have to remind yourself that Alex is only 18 years old and so some of the things he does are typical of an 18-year-old. The only drawback, in my opinion, to the book, was the way in which Alex obtained the money. Although he did give a lot of it away, he was also very extravagant with it. There were a few minor editing errors in the book, although they did not detract from the flow of the book.

I rate this book (b)4 out of 4 stars.(/b) This book would appeal to people who like sci-fi, technology, adventure, and action. I would not recommend this book to younger readers due to the underage drinking, casual and unprotected sex and drug usage. This book does end on a cliffhanger, but as this book is the first in a trilogy, that fact does not bother me but may bother others.

Funny, I had the exact opposite reaction. I thought the pacing was too slow and there wasn't enough action in the story, but maybe that's just me.

I liked this one too, but the main character annoyed me.

I was thinking that way at the beginning, but then I had to remember that he is only 18

Thanks for this review. It does sound like an interesting premise. I've read other reviews about this one. I think you're the only one who points out that Alex's age could be a clear factor in some of his not-so-great choices.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I just remember the stupid decisions I made at 18- why should Alex be any different

Nice review. I think you have a very understandable writing voice. I would have enjoyed more of your opinions on the book.

I loved the worldbuilding and action of this novel, but I hated the character Alex. I thought that he was very irresponsible for an eighteen-year-old, even though he had been living without much supervision in the orphanage. I especially hated the way that he treated the women that he encountered on his journey.

Great review, it sounds like a really enjoyable book, but you know what they say, ‘youth is wasted on the young’. Hopefully as he gets older he’ll get a better balance.

Nice review! I personally didn't like Alex very much, I thought he was immature for an eighteen-year-old. Nevertheless, I am glad that you liked this novel so much.
