I think that even if some of the ideas are esoteric that is just more of a reason a book like this is for a wide audience. The ideas aren't stuck in a black and white view and that adds a certain element to the text that might otherwise not be there.

Thank you for this review. I only read a bit of the sample. It does seem to be more academic. However, I agree that her style of writing is quite unique. The fact my country is one of the nations studied definitely has me curious.

Thank you for the great review. I read the sample for the BOTD and ended up downloading the whole book. After reading your review I look forward even more to continuing the book. The subject is complex and I think I will enjoy this intelligent exploration of it.

This book deals with a fascinating subject, one that I am constantly wondering about myself. IT has definitely affected our society in many ways, not the least of which is communication. However, having said that, I found this book to be a bit overly academic for my taste. I felt that it didn't flow very well, and as a result I didn't have much of a desire to read more. The reviewer did a nice job though of summing up the book and it seems like it would appeal to many people, just not me :-)

This sounds like quite an academic read. I’m glad it was well researched.

I liked the way you pose these questions of what could IT bring into this world especially in economic development and political participation, and how could it affect us as human beings. This is an educational non-fiction book that doesn't appeal to me but would recommend it to people who are fascinated with IT and such. It is certainly useful for literature students! thanks for the review!

The questions posed on the relevancy of IT in economic development and political participation are admirable.
The author also trying to show the importance of IT and it's effects to human beings is also relevant..
It is a great peace of work that I would recommend to everyone especially those in the field of literature...

This does sound love like my cup of tea. I am usually interested in reading books that try to argue out the impact of IT in orality. I will surely enjoy this. Great review.

The simple question is this: “Are ‘oral’ peoples necessarily unreflective, simple or concrete in their thinking?
OK... and the reviewer asks the question and then didn't give an answer!!! LOL Now, I suppose I'll have to read it, eh? ;)

Thanks for the review. But the book theme seems too complex for me. As you said, it is probably not my cup of tea.

I like that this book opens the reader's mind to the reality of how information technology will influence our lives in future. I just never thought of how the political landscape will change as a result. On that note, I'm eager to hear what the author has to say.

I love a good intellectual read and, as I received a Bachelor's in English and am currently working towards a Master's in Creative Writing, an academic book on literacy and orality sounds perfect for someone like me. I don't have time for such a read at the moment but I'll definitely keep it on my "to read" list. Thank you for the helpful review.

This book seems to provide awareness on stuff that the world is overlooking. I would love to take a look at it. Thanks for the introduction. Great review!
