A great review that highlights the lighthearted nature of the book. Its a great way to catch a glimpse into what it entails to be a caregiver. Most times, the images captured on TV are of the dark side of the profession. It will be a great read because it focuses on Christopher's passion and joy being a caregiver.

This sounds like such an uplifting sort of a book, with some great messages inside it. I love the sound of the story that you shared. I can almost picture how it all fell apart!

There aren't many books which can easily be given a full score of 4 out of 4 stars, but I guess your review did a justice to the book's contents without spoiling it for those who would want to read it. I think the points made about the care workers are quite interesting. Thank you so much for an honest opinion, definitely going to give this a read sometime.

What a nice review! And it´s such a heart-warming topic! I think care workers are a very important part of our lives and we often take them for granted, even when their work must be physically and mentally exhausting. The only negative thing I have to say is that I don´t like the cover, I think it looks too unprofessional for such a good rated book.

This is an entertaining and enlightening collection of stories that show how care giving is a meaningful, but sometimes, stressful career. Interestingly enough, I used to do a job very similar to what the author describes in his book, so I can relate a great deal to what he experienced. The downside of this particular book is the break up of the chapters were oddly done. The number for a new chapter would be in the middle of a story.

I enjoyed your review of this book. I have over 12 years in the field and the feel of this book is familiar. There are days of getting cussed out and beat up (both emotionally and physically); however, there's also the days where a client recalls their fondest memories and it's a walk through history. I will be taking a look at this book. Once again, nice job.

Great review. I can relate to the author having been a certified medical assistant for years before getting my medical assistant certification. Dealing with patients is difficult at times but very rewarding even if not as much in the money department. That there are serious as well as humorous points in the book is an added bonus. Thanks so much for sharing.

jobs that entail helping people are ranked the happiest worldwide.I agree with the author that caregivers are the unsung heroes in a world driven by status, power, money, popularity. I am looking forward to gleaning from the caregivers world. Great review

Changing the course of your life in your 50's could be very challenging, it seems like starting life afresh. However most times it is a bold and rewarding step. Just as Christopher Bulteel took in this book and ultimately he enjoyed doing so. This is very encouraging as God has not designed us to be stereotyped, we can become anything in our lives at any point in time and at whatever age we find ourselves so long as we are determined. In essence we should not limit ourselves.

The job of a care taker is, in my opinion, very difficult and dedicated and the way the author changed his life and the job deciding to care about other people is very amazing. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

I grew up in a family of healthcare workers and also worked in the healthcare field for awhile myself. It is definitely a tough job. It sounds like the author did a great job of appreciating those in healthcare as well as using humor to discuss some of the more trying situations and people. I thought the review did a great job of highlighting the positive aspects of the story.

As someone who is new to the onlinebookclub, I found this review to be extremely informative and a model for how I hope to write in the future. I love how you connected your personal experiences to the book that you were reading, it made the topic a lot more palpable and spoke to the fact that there is an entire community of health care workers out there who can identify, laugh, and gain knowledge from both the writer and his experiences. All in all great review, nice book, and congratulations to Christopher Bulteel for winning BOTD. :tiphat:

I enjoyed your review very much and agree with you (having read the sample) that this book deserves four stars even if there are some errors. The tone is very authentic and doesn't detract from the reading experience.

The writer seems to have a good sense of humor even though dealing with serious situations. Makes me wonder if this is a prerequisite for being able to handle a caregiving job. In addition, of course, to kindness, patience, etc...

My family members and I recently witnessed and endured a loved one's decline into dementia. I don't know what we would have done without the help of exceptional people such as the writer of this book. Sometimes it is just too painful if it is too close.

People indeed have different situations in jobs or working environment but everyone can relate to how stressful work can be. Though readers who work at the same industry or who have same nature of work will relate more to this story, I believe any readers can relate and appreciate the optimism of the character. It is important to have passion in what you do. In my country, which is Philippines, we consider OFWs or Overseas Filipino Workers as our modern heroes. Because they sacrifice a lot by being away from their family to work for a living in another country. Most of them are caregivers. I think this story will have a special place in my shelf and also to many readers.
