Love this review, my chosen career is a care giver and it’s so wonderful to see a book on how important these people can be.

Caregivers are so important and necessary for many people's lives. They deserve so much respect, as they are in one of the most difficult professions. It is amazing that there are books like this to show the world what these people do and how difficult, yet rewarding, their profession can be.

I definitely agree that caseworkers are the true unsung heroes. I like that there is some humor to lighten things up as I can imagine that caring for people can get very serious. Great and thorough review!

It takes a special type of person to be a care worker. My cousin is one. It is physically and emotionally draining. At the same time, it can also be emotionally and spiritually uplifting.

Thank you for pointing out that Christopher Bulteel highlights the positive side and doesn't dwell on the negative. Because of the high stress level of the day to day work, it would be so easy to get caught up in the negative moments and forget that you are dealing with people not problems.

Trust me, I'm a care worker is going on my bookshelves. I'm also sharing this one with my cousin. I believe she'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the great review. I found the stories of Christopher Bulteel's to be quite amusing. The first story really made me smile as it sounded so typically British. I liked the writing style and the few errors became unimportant as I was immersed in the story.

Nice review. There is nothing quite like being able to share one's personal experiences with others. And being able to focus on the positives without dwelling on the negatives says a lot for Mr. Bulteel's character.

"If you cannot be proud of the job you did when you are done, you wasted your time."

I do think that this book sounds like a great choice for people interested in personal stories. I'm glad that you pointed out that while the author doesn't shy away from the bad side of things, he doesn't dwell on them. I think that can make all the difference when reading a book like this.

This book sounds really good. I think it would be great to get an inside glimpse of the work of a caretaker, it must not be an easy job. There are for sure ups and downs, as you mentioned. Great job on your review, thanks for sharing that quote! :)

I loved your review. It's so true how underpaid yet dedicated care givers are. My grandmother had hospice and my grandfather received care after his stroke a few years ago. I'm beyond thankful to the individuals who helped my family when we could not.
It's interesting to point out in the review the mention that the author doesn't dwell in the negatives. It's refreshing that he focuses on having a positive demeanor.
I too had care givers when I lived in an inpatient rehabilitation hospital recovering from a brain injury while living on a stroke ward. I met countless individuals who helped me and it's nice to not focus on the negatives. Even if it was something simple as removing the clock from my room and finding a fan to help cool the place down. It's the simple acts of kindness.

Your review is excellent. I agree with you, these people are heroes. They are so needed and depended on, but sometimes not appreciated. It takes a special person to do this job.

I read the sample of the book and really enjoyed it. The first few pages of the book are so well written. It is almost like the author is sitting right there and telling you about his experiences. The telling is so interesting and so natural.

I really want to read this book when I get the time.

Very good review - I really enjoyed how you gave samples of his writing style and humerous antics in the book. I also agree with the odd chapter breaks - it does add to the book. Thanks for the great review!

When i read this book it hit close to home because it reminds me of my mother and she's been at her job for 16 years and her patients have grown to love her. She smile even when down but she keeps pushing and when she has days off ,When she comes back her patients let her know that she was missed and glad to see her.

I got a lot out of your review. I'm not sure I could continue to read these sad stories about people with dementia.

Also, I am becoming very confused about how these reviews are written. The sample book I read was filled with errors, like no capitalization, extra spaces and more than once the chapter changed in the middle of a sentence.

While I enjoyed Mr. Bulteel's spirit and his remembrance of the seniors he helped, I don't understand how this could be a 4 star review. In my opinion, your review was better organized than his first three chapters.
