Your review is very informative and I can tell you really enjoyed the book. I am wondering though, do you think it would serve the reader better to read the first book before this one or in your opinion can this one stand alone? Thank you,

I'm not used to reading historical texts but the kinds of plots here, l guess, have changed my view. I'm especially thrilled with the its lengthen articulated story style. Thanks for the review.

This review gave me a lot of insight into the book. I like that it is complex and enthralling. It will make a great read. I love adventure stories, especially if it is well written. I do not mind that there is anachronism and some inconsistencies. The author made the book his own.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre because I love history and I love to be entertained. I feel like I get both with historical fiction. I've never read a historical fiction set in the Orient so I'm excited to give this book a try.

The fact that some of the stories are actually true. How wonderful that his Great Grandson received his journals.
Long-lived journeys. And the opportunity of having met is ageing Great Grand Father.

The description of days happenings is thorough. Good review. Concise.

Great review. I had to look up anachronism because I was unsure what that meant but I concur after looking it up that that could be a problem with period pieces such as this one. It seems to me that the writer, at least in your opinion, has done a splendid job of weaving together this story and selling the characters. I also appreciate that he seemed knowledgeable about the places and had studied the period and places he wrote of.

Being a historical fiction and the main character Billy going on an adventurous journey, the book seems intriguing. But I need a bit more clear picture of the book summary to decide whether to read or not. Thanks though.

The sample I read backs up what the reviewer mentioned here. The characters are well-developed and the story is compelling right from the start. The widow Schreiber is an eye-raising character whom I would definitely like to know more about! She sounds like a sassy woman for her time, though not an entirely nice one. The book appears well written and edited though I can't say if I would read the whole thing at this point without knowing more about overall plot of the story.
