I'll tell ya what gets my goat...bloody developers! I live in a little neighbourhood that just happens to be near a shopping centre and some transport routes; for that I'm going to be punished. The State Gov. here has taken over Local Council restrictions and developers are starting to carve up the suburbs with large ugly boarding houses right next door to little one story cottages like mine. The building application for the one next door to me is 3 stories high!!! (yes, that's right) and going to take most of my sun.I have a north facing garden with roses, daisies, vegies, herbs, fruit trees etc. I will be left with 3 hours of sun in Winter and that is probably on the back fence! And this is legal and council cannot refuse the application under building height or such.....We are fighting this but it really needs to have the legislation changed at State level. How f(*&^& dare they take my sun!! The very ironic thing is ...in the guidelines for these monsters they state that one communal room must have at least 3 hours of sun per day!!!!!

@Honeybarbara, Thats not good. Cant you get some kind of an injunction against them or something? Things like that make me glad I live in the country, away from all of that so-called progress.

No....there are strict rules about how you can protest and what reasons you have to give. We have put in our objections and are waiting for a 'public voice' where we can address council. (Believe me, I'll give them a public voice they won't forget!!!) Also, we are publicising this problem as most councils are weak as p*&% (as the saying goes) and will back down if they think there is too much bad publicity in it. But these things are only publicly viewed for a week or so ..at a public library and at council chambers in work hours... and then you only have a few days to get your objection in. Also, they only have to send letters to the closest 5 houses next to the development. Kafka-esque!! The huge 'joke' (if it wasn't so pathetic) is that they have to fit in with the surrounding buildings and streetscape!! It's like Andre the Giant standing in a lineup with the three stooges...so out of place it isn't funny. But the architect speak is all 'in keeping with the area' bullshit.

I dont know, that sounds like a complicated bunch of BS. But what it all comes down to is money. Those greedy-ass developers have got the money and pull to do whatever they want and do not care who they step on. I hope evrything works out for you and I wish you luck.

That's sad it's disappointing what governments can do "in the name of progress". I don't know how it works where you live but in the States we have a law called eminent domain and it give the government the ability to seize your home and property giving you "fair" market value for it all in the name of progress. This progress includes commercial, low income housing, roadways, or they can determine that the area you live in is urban blight. There is nearly nothing that can be done about this.

I'm not sure what is worse having to move or having to live somewhere when you're no longer happy. Okay that may be a stretch I'm sure losing ones home is devistating.

I just saw something on Facebook from my sister-in law. She said they are going to start charging to use their service because of some changes they made. I dont really care, Facebook never worked right for me anyway. Half the stuff I couldnt get into. As far as Im concerned they can cut me off and go straight to hell, there not getting one peso out of me. The asswipes have already made several millions they dont need any more from me. Has anyone else heard that?

No Huey, never been on Facebook and never will, I knew it would all end in tears, I prefer the old pen and paper (which I've heard is making a big comeback) and photographs that you can keep in your wallet or hang on the wall.

I signed up for it about a year or so ago, my daughter kept bugging me to get on it but I had nothing but trouble with it, they just play those stupid games and no one talks about anything serious, just dumb childish stuff. The only reason I stay on it is because my one daughter in Maine cannot get email on her computer, only through Face book. If it wasnt for that I would drop it like a hot potato. Email works good for me, as I only get my mail once a month.

I'm another one that can't see the point of Facebook either.
I actually found myself watching The Social Network last night ... what a crowd of self absorbed, anally retentive, shallow & thoroughally unpleasant characters! My God if these are the future movers and shakers it will make for a pretty unpleasant world.

I'm on Facebook, I keep up with old mates.. But, it's very annoying.. Everything is thrown onto your page, most of the stuff I get are girls posting on OTHER guys walls and other girls walls saying stuff like,
"Omg, you're so amazing. Don't ever change! </3"
Oh my god, It's just like a stack of nonsense.. It's like, no one cares.. Inbox them or something.
In fact, any of my male friends hardly do it. And if they do it, it's to their "girlfriend" or something. I don't know what's up with that.

^ Facebook is good to keep in touch with mates you dont see very often whom you otherwise may have drifted away from and its fun to see the photos and comments of your mates but using it all day every day is a waste of time in my view..

I get two-thirds of my party invites through facebooks these days! Sometimes I wish people would send proper invitations through the post! I suppose it's easier though and all my friends from school are leading busy lives or living in different cities due to study/work/getting away from earthquakes so it's definetly been good to keep connected in that way. And all my dance notices go up in a group page so that's always handy. But yes I hardly see the point of using it all day, everyday. I have a few on my friends list who seem to think it necessary to join 30+ groups a day... annoying!
