Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants by Caleb J Boyer is an adventurous book. I am not sure maybe it is because I am getting more mature, but this is not an adventure I would not like embark in. This story, I must say, is fantastically thrilling. This adventurous and exciting book would totally captivate you. It reminds me of the movie, “the maze runner.” This is a story of two best friends in a video game quest-like scenario trying to survive and get out of a mysterious island. Allow me to start from the beginning.
Matthew and Ryan discovered themselves on a mysterious island with no memory of their past. These guys merely had vague memories of each other. They soon discovered they had to overcome many challenges on the island in other to stay alive. Matthew and Ryan were rewarded with food packets and water with each challenge they overcame. Matthew was the strong and calm one while Ryan often panicked and got into trouble. These guys soon discovered they had to work together as a team in other to stay alive on the Island. The more they explored the island, the more challenges (and rewards) they found. Matthew and Ryan must struggle to survive and escape from the island.
The story is a narration told from the third-person point of view. The author performed a brilliant job in vividly describing the mysterious island. This book was everything I wanted in a young adult novel. I was not disappointed in the plot. The way these guys met and faced challenges felt like they were in a video game like in the movie "Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle." The banter between Matthew and Ryan provided the comic relief in the story. Matthew was the reasonable, levelheaded and practical friend. Ryan loved to lighten the mood with humorous remarks. Teamwork was a recurring theme in this story. I do not think I will survive for an hour if I'm in the positions of those boys. This caused me to admire and respect these brave characters.
The way Matthew and Ryan looked out for each other, and help each other out of the dire situation is commendable. Although the characters frequently disagreed, they also realized they needed each other. They both knew the bond of their friendship was enormously important for them to survive and leave the Island. There is strong character development. The novel seemed to be edited professionally because I found no grammatical or spelling errors.
I have absolutely no complaint about this work it was everything I expected it to be. The dangers described in this book seemed to be genuinely exciting.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The writing style is straightforward, and the story is easy to follow. The book seemed to be edited professionally because I found no grammatical or spelling errors. I recommend this novel to teenagers and young reader I believe they will find it exciting. I also recommend this book to those who like the thrills of adventure. I do not recommend this book to those who do not like young adult books
