Sometimes, but then there are other times when I can't concentrate on what I'm writing (and usually I'm lost for words at that point).

For a long while I only had utter silence when I wrote - this way I could listen better to my characters - because the last thing I would ever want to do is suffocate their voices and what they have to say - but I've been listening to music on an off. Sometimes it helps to create the mood and get the writing flowing. So as of now I'll listen to it when needed. It will probably depend on my mood.

I find I can also only listen to classical music when I'm writing. I find the lyrics of music usually interrupt the words in my head.

Yeah, I felt that classical music is amazing also. I remember going to heart symphonies and I could just imagine a story from the music. It was amazing. Quite inspirational. I guess I don't listen to it much when I am writing -- just straight out classical -- because the mood won't always fit with what I am writing. However I love listening to movie soundtracks - especially the orchestra arrangements for movies like The Chronicles of Narnia, Pirates of the Caribbean, Eragon (bad movie, good soundtrack), Lord of the Rings, etc. Those are nice because you can turn to whatever track you want that holds good mood music for your scene - battles, sorrow, etc.

I mostly listen to classical music when I write. Sometimes I listen to Dylan and the Mama and Papa's or Pumpkins or Bush, for some reason they help me get out of a creative funk. If what I am writing takes place in the past I also tend to listen to music from that era.

Yeah, I listen to music. I don't like the quiet much. But I listen to soft rock, and it's more of a background music. I try not to focus too much on the lyrics.

I go to http://www.pandora.com.
There you can type in an artist or a song and they will play music like it.

Then I can write something in a certain mood and my mood won't change with the songs because all the songs are similar!

I'm not good at writing content when listening to music. I can do other types of work with music, but writing is difficult.

Sure do, it creates the background noise that helps keep me focused. Silence is just too powerful.

I do listen to music when writing but I often find myself having to pause it for a while to re read what I have done then put the music back on again and carry on.

It inspires me with music on the background. I could write more sense than in a silent mode. Everything just go with my pen and the music itself.
