This is great review!
I encountered adversities in life and what helped me the most to overcome these difficulties is by attending worship service and connect group. It gave me a wider perspective on how to deal with life’s challenges. One of this is to always think positively. Dwelling on bad experiences will not help but instead we must focus on what are the productive things that we can do. Exposing ourselves as well on positive people is a big help. The experiences that we encounter in life whether bad or good helpep us to inspire and counsel our friends and family members because we have a firsthand experience on it thus giving us wisdom on how to handle it the right way.

This sounds like such a powerful book. Despite the author growing up in a very different time, sadly her message is still relevant to many today. Great review.

Thank you for sharing those portions of your life story and your trinkets of wisdom. You are such an inspirational person yourself, though in your own unique way. It's often too difficult to open up to people as it takes great inner courage, but you did it. It's a bit of a personal struggle for me, although I'm working on it. I do hope you continue to be such a beacon of light, positivity, and hope to others, as you do now like before, and similar to what our book author did and continues to do. Stay blessed.

Thank you for sharing your precious thoughts. It's indeed a reality that a lot of sad stories still pervade in our world, and previous as well as emerging areas of improvement could still be found each day. The good thing about the memoir is that it gives a backgrounder on what had been happening before that it makes one feel at least a bit grateful for what is already occurring at present. The book proves that there is hope for change and progress.

This may be a very inspirational book for me but reading how much hardships she's gone through will be difficult for me to read. I will probably skip to the positive part where she overcomes her troubles. Thanks for your review. :)

I've got that propensity, too, I must admit. I'd always prefer stories with a guaranteed promise of a happier ending. One redeeming quality of this memoir, though, is that it wasn't too graphic and it is stoically written enough to help me catch the gist of her story but without being too bothered with what's off.

Thanks as well for sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.

I think we have to gather the courage to read the hardest parts of her life though. She had the courage to write about it. So sometimes I feel bad about skipping. I'm not even the one living on that situation. :) You're Welcome!

That's so true. I understand what you mean. Kindness and compassion are both good; even just the thought with a tinge of those already counts, I believe. Cheers!

This sounds like such an important book. People won't understand racial conflict until they have experienced it and I hope reads like this one will open some minds to the harsh truths about the racism that is still very much present. Loved your review.

You are right! Kindness and compassion allow us to get out of ourselves and see what other people are going through.

I agree. The author has great inner courage to share her thoughts and experiences to reveal what the reality really is. She's also a living example that there's always hope for change. Thank you for taking part in making things happen in your own way.

Segregation was an ugly thing and I am glad the author was able to get through it, emotionally scarred but still strong and fighting.
