The book seems to be interesting as it deals with social problems and issues which teenagers face at the time of adolescence which is a crucial stage in life as it is the time when they are growing up and require correct guidance and direction. It’s not often a male author is brilliant enough to portray females in a way that’s so authentic that females can see themselves in the characters. It sounds like a very even-handed book, examining the attitudes, challenges, and hardships of both sexes from a fair and balanced perspective. I may have to check this one out. This sounds like an interesting book that deals with things we generally don't talk about, specifically when it comes to young boys and the pressures they go through during their teenage years. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with all the sex related content. But great review and I'm glad you enjoyed this book!

i love the whole story in the book. i try to picture how crime was back then in 1960s. And obviously, where the is a crime there must be sex and assaults among them due to adolescent behaviour. i also like the cover of the book and how the author describe the characters and the writting style as well.

A book focusing on teenage struggles in the 1960s does sound like it would be appealing for some. I like how you mention this book has down-to-earth depictions of relationships and sex. It's also great to hear that you were able to connect with Deanie and her friends, and that the author was able to open your eyes about gender expectations hurting both genders. I personally remember not liking the toxic masculinity or the heavy themes when I read this, but I agree that this isn't a light romance. This story describes the current situation of today's teenagers. I think it's a nice book and most teenagers are not just worried about it; he or she is terrified of not fitting in with friends. Peer pressure and identity crisis are just a few of other social issues faced by the teenagers nowadays. Thanks for the review.

Isn’t it interesting the conflicting messages that our society sends in regard to sexual relationships, social status and a host of everything else. The time period that this book was set in seems to be when the sexual revolution hit and that conflicted severely with the morals that parents were trying to instill in their kids then. Nice review as I was somewhat considering reading this one, but it sounds too deep right now for me. Looking for the light hearted. Thanks for this review.

Today's BOTD reminds us that although times have changed, we as humans, are still affected by the positive and negative aspects life throws our way...the same way people have always been. I like reading books with HS kids because they seem to include universal themes, and the actions of the characters turn out being so true to life! Thank you for your review!
