I definitely think that it is possible the US could lose power in the future. It appears that this country values its huge ego much too highly and that could ultimately result in its downfall.

With the increasing power of corporations and the decreasing power of the government, I absolutely agree that it could be the possible future. Scary thought!

Even though we do not for certain what will happen in the future, I think certain things in Gariffo’s serve us as warnings. An example is a government in constant deadlock. Another is blind faith in consumerism and globalization.

Not quite predict, but it definitely serves as a warning of sorts, what with the way things are right now, and with corporations getting more and more power every day.

It is possible for the United States to lose power at some point. Growing and underrated countries are working low-key to rise.

Many young countries learn how to run their affairs from the United States. As you know, when you learn from the best you will definitely become incredible because you are already aware of the failures and strengths. Therefore, it is possible for the United States to lose power at some point.

I think the answer is flat out No, it does not predict the future.

I understand the premise of letting big corporations take over certain things - but I think the government has enough control over their decision making to make sure this type of future doesn't happen. I also don't think heads of state would ever just fall away.
Imagine how much has happened in the US relations with China, Canada, Turkey and India with respect to trade tariffs and counter tariffs in the last few months. What does this portend? Where will it lead to? Who will back down? Only time can tell.

The book may not entirely give a correct impression of the future. However, the reality is that anything is possible. Strong empires have always existed in the past and were replaced by stronger ones. Currently, the state of affairs may not really give an impression of such a big shift in the world powers, however.

This is also true. In fact, much of the resources rest within the big corporations.

I’d be surprised if the US lost it's power. Such a huge country with so many resources would have to seriously mess up to, lose it. However, India, China and others are surging forward all the time.

It will be good if we just leave to expect anything. Though a shift in the world superpower nation has never and will never be a simple thing. Most of the superpower changes occurred post major wars that included nations allying on sides.

This is true. It would be a surprise if not a shock to many. But I guess it is possible.

The present isn't as far gone as the book portrays the world, so I wouldn't exactly phrase it that way. But I understand your point, our world is already paving the path for a future, hopefully less destructive as in the book!
