Thank you for a very comprehensive review. I am not all that interested in quotes at the moment but it sounds like this would be a useful reference book should the need arise.

As much as I may like the idea of reading about the genesis of quote usage, I've read this author before and never will again; her writing is either too flighty and impossible to make heads or tails of, or it's too complex, as seems to be the case in this book. I also don't like the idea of reading this tome text-book style... Thanks for the review, just the same!

I think exploring the history or quotations, particularly when it became more common to quote others, became so popular, and even important. I have always been interested in the history or certain sayings, so I think I could actually enjoy this book, textbook style and all. I do agree that the language should probably be simpler so that the book is more inclusive. Thanks for the review.

Even though this is a good review I believe today's' book of the day would be okay to read from an intelligent standpoint. Yet, I don't be that it is a book I would just want to curl up and get into. I guess really it's just one of those books you would have to be in a certain mood to read. But, it is something good to read just to have the knowledge of why we quote.

The book sounds really educational. Since I'm a non-native English speaker, I think this might be helpful provided the grammatical errors are omitted. Thanks for the great review.

I am interested in this kind of book and any others in same category. Since joining OBC, I have come to realize that even as a first language, English is a lot of work. I have started adding these kind of books to my reading list. A well written review which properly highlights the thrust of this book. Congrats to Ruth Finnegan on #BOTD

I am an English major so I would be the only person interested in this book. I know I am not the only one, but it is something I decided to dedicate my life to, so I like learning and doing research. The way you describe the book sounds like it will teach me new things and/or refresh my memory. Thanks for your review.

I'd no idea there was so much information related to quotations. I'll be giving this one a miss, though. Thank you for your review!

As someone who majored in Linguistics and Literature, I find the topic interesting, although I understand it´s dry or boring for most people. It´s great that she did an ample research, but I find it a bit ironic that someone devoted to the study of language published a book with grammar mistakes.
Thanks for your review, it´s interesting.

A book on quotations!!! this is quite educative. A book like this would help know the history of quotations. I think everyone that writes should read this book. The author is bold to have chosen to write such a book as this entails serious research

I would love the author to write a tl;dr for this book, it sounds interesting, but I'm not going to read it. This sounds like it would be suited to a college English class textbook more so than a general book to read. I'm really surprised you found a substantial amount of errors given the subject of the book.

This is not a book that would be for me. I love quotes and hearing people use them. I agree that this would be something for those taking college courses or interested in this category.

I added this book to my not interested in reading shelf. It's ironic that this book has some grammar issues. It sounds like this book is a textbook that I would read in college if I was studying English or another similar degree. I am sure the author is very well educated, just not the book for me personally.
