I certainly enjoy learning about the rules of grammar, but its history... not as much. I can't say I especially care about the topic, and I must definitely wouldn't want to have to consult a dictionary while reading this type of book. I really appreciate your review. I find the grammatical errors odd, given the topic.

As an academic volume, I would have better appreciated this book if it had been easier to understand without having to look up things every 2 pages. For those who don't have this problem, the book could be quite informative.

Thanks for the honest review. Sounds interesting to read a book about quotations and learn something new. But as you have said, with extensive vocabulary in this book I think it will disconnect me in between. Probably this book is not for me too.

This sounds like a very good educational read. Many people usually don't take quoting other people's works seriously. I am glad that the author chose to shed the much-needed light on this subject. Great review.

The book sounds perfect for those doing in depth research on the history and usage of quotes. The casual user of quotes will probably just use them and go on their way, without necessarily needing to know the history. The author really invested herself though to compile a comprehensive work about the topic, even including aspects like imitation and plagiarism! Good work right there.

With its complex language and textbook format, this isn’t the type of book that interests me, but I’m sure it would be helpful for select audiences. It seems out of place that there would be grammatical errors in a book geared toward English language or literature students.

I'm an English literature major, so I'm surprised that I never gave this subject much thought before. I've used and analyzed quotes for essays, but I've never given much thought to the "why" behind it all. Considering History of the English Language was one of my favorite undergrad courses, this kind of book sounds up my alley. I'm not really a fan of the textbook style, but I could probably push past that if the subject turns out to be interesting enough. Thank you for the helpful review.
