Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer is the story of two friends, Mathew and Ryan, as they woke up one day on a sandy beach with no recollection of how they got there; in fact, they have no memory at all except each other. Now together, they have to find out a way to survive this deadly island even if sometimes it feels like someone is playing a cruel joke on them. They don’t remember having a home, but they have to get home somehow.

Island Games is written for teens and young adults, so I can see how this would appeal to teenagers. The book is filled with exciting adventures, mysteries, dangers, and plenty of humour. And a few lessons can be learned from here or there. I especially like that the author emphasizes a lot on believing in yourself, which I think is an appropriate message for the age group that the author is targeting.

The book is quite an interesting one, even though the narrative is not something new, similar to Maze Runner or The Hunger Games; it still carries its unique charm that I found fascinating. The language is pretty informal, but considering the author’s age when he wrote this book, I applaud him for his talent.

The only thing in this book that kind of bugs me is the cliffhanger ending with many unanswered questions; I understand that it is essential for the book to develop into a series. The book has some inconsistency, like even though they don't have any memory, they would sometimes say something about their past, but it is not something that you notice when you get immersed in the book, and it doesn’t affect the storyline.

I did not find any errors in the book. I would rate this book a 4 out of 4. I enjoy reading it, even though it is an old narrative, the author has done some great thing with it and really create something worth reading. Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer is a book written for teens and young adults, but I found that older adults would enjoy it too. It is also an excellent book for teachers to have in their classroom as students would enjoy it because it doesn’t have complicated words, but also just the fact that the book is written by a 12 year old might even inspire someone to pursue that career path.
