AnnieM wrote:I love Irvine Welsh but think his early books were much better than recent. I read his latest Crime recently and was pretty good but not a patch on Trainspotting, Porno etc. I also love chick lit but struggle to find a good laugh out loud read these days. Any suggestions?
I really enjoyed Irvine Welsh too. The Marabou Stork Nightmares is my favorite of his books, but my favorite author (and he is laugh out loud funny) is Christopher Moore. Who else has had the cajones to question 'What if Jesus knew Kung Fu?'?

I listed a couple already but they were fiction writers. I also really like Timothy Ferris' books. 4 Hour Work Week is great.

Either Alan Moore (Graphic Novels), or as far as the Novels are concerned its Matthew Pearl or Mike Carey.

I like the fact that there are some authors on other people's lists that I've never heard of. It makes me want to go out and find out more about them. For what it's worth, a few of my favourite authors are:

F. Scott Fitzgerald
Hunter S. Thompson
J.D. Salinger
Jack Kerouac

Currently my two favorites are:

Iris Johansen
Stephanie Meyer

But I like too many to count...lazy to go to my book case.
