This was a very beautiful and emotive review. I normally don't read poetry but I will check this book out because of this and educate myself on the happenings in Syria.

“Voices from a Forgotten Letter” by Seif-Eldeine is a collection of poems about the impact of the Civil War in Syria. Some of the poems focus on how people totally regard rules and will violate the rules in front of a sing forbidding what they are doing. Other poems are about refugees living the life of slaves and woman that are forced to men they do not love and must submit themselves to the nightly torture in bed. Many of the poems focus on the good side of life like working, marrying, caring for and raising families. One poem focuses on the last thoughts of a dying soldier. The sample was very brief but the official review was very good.

Hmmm, what a sad poem! the reality of life is that it goes on. One minute a noble person dies and the world pauses, the next minute they're celebrating a wedding ceremony and everyone is celebrating like they didn't finish mourning a great person. That's just how it is everywhere.

Thanks for the review! I like poetry, but this takes the heartache to a whole different level. There are so many new perspectives from the Syrian civil war that I never knew about. I thank the author for this, but at the same time looking at the magnitude of suffering, wish it was never written. My heart reaches out to the author and the people in Syria. May peace come upon, and may they all recover from the abuse and trauma in no time.

The reviewer is right, the poems are touching. The media rarely covers what is happening to the normal citizen in a war torn country. That they have to fulfill the mundane tasks of life while hopelessly waiting for help. Thank you for the detailed review unfortunately, war poetry is one of the few sub genres that I pass.
